There's a practice going around, and from what I've been told, it's been going on for years. Yet, I've never heard of it. To add as much as 1/16-1/8 of an inch, there are some tournament participants who will break the jaw of a bass just to get it to measure. Anyone else heard of this?

People years ago used to wrap a bass in a towell and then pop it pulling the ends to get that extra inches, and prob killed alot of bass,I'm with you if it's that small it prob wont help nowadays with the big weights and sacks . emoBang

Never heard of it myself Pointer in my 15+ yrs of Tx fishing. Most of mine have been club TXs where a big payout isn`t a factor. I have fished enough of the big moneys and know a lot who do ...never heard of it. Can`t really see where it would help unless you weigh your own fish and still don`t know how it would help.??? And most real Tx Fisherman really take good care of their fish. And we really don`t care what uninformed people think. We spend big money on livewell systems, water treaments, oxygenators, fizzers....and some guys even smooch on`em and pet `em too !! I doubt seriously if there are many do it and if you know somebody that does....turn `em in!!

If there is money involved people will do anything. Break their backs. Stomp on them. I like to sleep at night!

That tops the old cheating way(I hope it's old) of stuffing lead weights down their throat to add total weight Personally, it's a shame that someone has to be that sorry, no matter how they cheat! emoEnforce

I will say this as a director I have the authority to take a fish or not. If I come across a fish that has been damaged I will seriously consider cheating. Thanks for the heads up and will be on the look out.

Ashtrey - is this a typo?

On the subject.
I have a friend who knows of guys using lead and were caught. Another time his dad fished a tournament and the winners were caught cheating - it seems they pre-fished and put the 5 biggest fish in a wire cage and put it in an out of the way location, some back cove in shallow water, fed the fish for a few days prior to the tournament and then.... tourney day; they went to fetch the fish dropped them in the live well and finished fishing the rest of the day; attempting to up grade the weight even more.

What's funny is.. they were spotted by some young teen fishing from the bank (hid when they suspected foul play) nothing illegal in Ga saying you can't save legal lenght fish! but the person that watched them, told his parents. The parents contacted the wardens. The wardens put out a camera and filmed the culprits feeding the pet fish everyday via thier boat. Ok no big deal. still no laws broken yet.

However... several days later, Saturday - tournament day. (The wardens suspected that the next weekend would give more clues to this odd behavior) So they had 1 warden on shore hidden in the back of the cove with a radio and a boat with 2 undercover agents out in the lake a short distance down the lake. The boaters arrived, but put the fish into the live well and took off.

The unsuspecting boaters had no clue they were being watched. The wardens were some smart agents. They pulled a switch on the suspects by driving on past them after a time acting like fishing pals having fun.
As they agents passed the perps (perpetrators) another boat with 2 new undercover agents did the mirror act, fishing and following the boat till the perps went in to weigh the fish. They of course won, the wardens had to let them break the law by actually weighing in the fish. They were waiting in the crowd and near the weigh-in station.

They were caught red handed and admitted to everything. Lost the boat, all rods, tackle and licenses for unknown period of time and banned from competitive fishing for life. emoEnforce emoDance

This is a true story

I aint heard of that, but it would not suprise me that some dipwad would do that. I mean come on if you got to do that, then it is apparent that person is a selfish bastard and would most likely cheat in other ways. And if someone was caught doing that then some kind of criminal charge from the state wildlife agency should be pressed and then that person should be barred from ever fishing tournaments again, anywhere!!!!! emoBang emoEnforce emoAngry emoMad emoProtest emoBadLanguage emoTskTsk

We used to jokingly call those fish that were close to measurable as "stompers" but I don't think that one would end up with a live fish after the "stomping". We never did it but I'm sure that some would stoop that low.

Sweet Justice!

I have fished tx's on a limited basis. I just think it's one of those things that a guy heard from a guy, who heard it from a guy. And every tx fisherman I've met, with a few exceptions, have been guys just like us. I doubt it honestly. But will just about believe most anything with what I've witnessed from stupid people in my life. Just don't think 99.9% of anglers would do such a stupid thing.

FYI - The 2 guys I posted about.... that happened in Georgia a few years back. My best friends dad fished that tournament and witnessed the showdown at the weigh-in. emoToast
