Hey everybody, been snooping around the forums for awhile, enjoying the fishing reports and associated pictures and what not, but I have not had a decent reason to post yet. I was wondering first of all when Lake Junior opens officially, looked back at a few threads on here and I think the consensus is January , also they stock it on January 3rd but I'd like to know for sure. Also, I've been fishing with spinning reels and baitcasters for for my entire life, but I got a fly rod for Christmas and I bought some waders and I've been practicing the FINE AND FRUSTRATING ART of casting everyday since. I'd like to know if there's some special fly that have proven to catch fish at Lake Junior so I can pick some of those up. Otherwise, I'll just get what I think will work and wing it. Thanks for looking, hope y'all can help me out.

lake jr fish dumb stocked fish .. any pattern brightly colored yellows, reds, and flashy small wet flies size 6-12, wooly boogers, black and olive good too. Fly fishing can be a frustrating experience, and most fly rod combos come with floating line, you'll do better with a sinking tip line .. but harder to pick up line from the water after the cast .. and casting around other people may be a challenge too , be prepared to loose a lot of flies in bushes, trees, etc until you perfect the cast. Id Practice casting a lot before attempting to fly fish. Its no where as easy as it looks like when you see others doing it .

Go to Sportsmans warehouse , and look at the flies, best price locally for flies, dosent really matter what pattern for lake JR as much as the colors and something with silver or gold tinsel. wet flies , streamers.

Welcome . I agree with NRG and will add use at least a 9 foot leader tapered to 6x and put that little bugger or streamer out there lightly weighted and let it sink slowly. If it suspends that is good too.Too much casting will spook them.Fish slow and let it soak awhile. An egg pattern might be good too.i was thinking about trying the Tellico DH today but is awfully cold and windy and I'm not as young as I used to be so probably will stay close to the house .I highly reccommend Lefty Kreh's book "Advanced Fly Fishing Techniques second Edition".
