Jigs, we fish jigs mostly. The only real tips I could give you are to fish where smallmouth are (usually rocks or stumps), fish when smallmouth bite best (usually late fall-winter- spring and usually during foul weather), use light tackle, 6lb test at the most.

Smallmouth don't hang out in the same places as largemouth. We have several really good spots on Chick and we either catch smallmouth off of them, sometimes spots, but rarely ever any largemouth.

I love fishing for them and really they have spoiled alot of the fun for me. After catching a few smallmouth in the 5lb class and this 6lber, largemouth, while a good way to pass the time, just don't get my blood pumping much.

I am not sure what size largemouth it would take to duplicate the fight of a 5-6lb smallmouth. I have caught a couple of largemouth in the 7lb class that didnt even come close.

I couldn,t imagin a 6lbr.My largest was 3.5lbs.But it only had one eye and didn't act rite.Got it at a crappe holewere mysely and other guis often fish.We had caught the fish severl times. So we named him normand.Any ways got to get down on the river soon and broaden my horizons.I was noticing from the pitcher of your fish it looks like a spot were the stompbumper smallmouth fishes alot.must be a good hole he pulls up lots of toads too. emoScratch

Where do people fish for them at Nickajack? Below or above the dam. Only place I have been able to get into them has been below Chickamauga. I love the late fall bite and am ready for the winter bite now too. Are they real aggressive when using the jigs? Are they tube jigs or something else? What size do you find works best?
