I try to post this every year. The Chick is down a little more then five foot off summer pool. It still has a foot to go. However there are places right now you will hit if you do not know where you are going or know the lake all that well. There are three humps that get anglers every year, I mean every year. One is the flat right out in front of HBSP. It right now has grass on it. Every year folks who do not know it is there or who are not paying attention haul right up on it. The other two are the hump out in front of HWY 58. It is a couple hundred yards from the Hwy just on the inside of the red buoys. The last place that scores a couple boats each year is the hump out in front of Chester Park, go straight out like you are heading for the lake and about 200 yards out there is a hump. Again right now it has grass showing. Good time to see where it is. Make sure you know where you are in relationship to these humps, stay in between the green and red buoys while running the lake. Also going into the Witches' Ditch and the Skie Slew you can hit the sides. It is the time of year the Chick can really get dangerous. emoGeezer Jmax

I found the shallow edge of the river headed down toward the dam a few years ago. About the third red channel marker past the big turn in the river... Near teh rock bluff... you cannot run outside of the channel marker unless you want a visit from the tow boat... I know this very well :(

Two boats at the same time last Saturday. The second boat came through the grass line about 30 feet away from where we were fishing and then ended up parked next to the first boat. They eventually got out... I like to imagine the second boat was coming to help the first lol

It may be hard to tell, but the guy is walking over to the second boat

I feel his pain... I beached not far from that spot a few years ago but it was in February and the water was very cold while I tried to push it off the hump to no avail.

Not signing my name to this post... :) embarrassed.

We got stuck on the one out in front of cfp last year. We were fishing and the wind blew us up on top of it

Good heads up Jmax. I'll tell ya, my Humminbird with Lakemaster chip and water level offset has saved me from areas like these several times!

That is some good ones. Before I had a chart plotter I did not know the lake down here. So I let someone else drive my boat. We was wot when he founderstands the one in front of the park. I had a aluminum bass boat. Multiple cracks in the hull. Gave it to my son. Had it welded up 3 time. Now the front section is going to have to be reskined. Those will get you. J max is giving some great advice here. Cheaper than paying. After that happened. I bought my first chart plotter. I drive where ever I go now.

as mentioned above the lakemaster with water offset and ability to highlight certain water depths has made running the lake much easier for me, since I am totally new to the lake it has been a huge help.

LakeMaster + water level offset. Running the lake is a breeze with it. I mark 5' and less in red. 5'-15' in green and the rest is deeper. It makes running any lake easy.

That hump in CF got me in 2006 when I first moved here. Just got my boat from F-N-F and shelled the new SS prop. About a $700 lesson and I was fortunate not to have wrecked the lower unit. Sure busted my ego and day of fishing however!

I have a helix with a lakemaster card also. I do love it. Works great. I think humminbird charts are unbeatable.

I know exactly where that hump is at infront of Hwy 58. It got me back in the spring when the water had gotten up just high enough to cover it. Pay attention to your nav chips if you have them, they're life savers

Even with the water at winter pool the chick is a breeze to navigate. Go and experience Weiss lake 6ft down now that's a challenge.

This is so true I had to reply. Weiss lake is the most dangerous lake around here IMO. I have never had a problem on the chick.

Where exactly is this at? First slew off of HB road or towards IC marina north of the wolfteever bridge?

If your referring to the picture that is posted. Head south from HBSP past pinkys point, will be on right, when you make the slight left in the bend heading south all the area to the left of the channel all the way to the bank is a no go.

That sounds right Triton. I don't know the nicknames of the points but it is an area when going south the river bends to the left, and that area is on the left.

I grew up fishing and running a boat at Weiss and yes it is as dangerous as just about any lake around here. But now with the lake down as low as it is is a great time to go over there and see all the stuff you run over at full pool. I used to go and walk the banks this time of year to learn different places to fish and to avoid when the water came back up. I have never fished Chick when it was really low, it was about 2 and a half feet low this spring when we fished and it killed the places we wanted to fish, but getting around was still pretty easy.
