Wave of trash and driftwood floating down the river today

I lived on the lake most of my young life and they do it every year sorta like backwashing, they raise the water really high and it floats all the trash off the banks and downstream. It use to happen in March and may have been less noticeable before TVA changed the schedule for the lake to be at full pool to May 15th instead of April 15th

I'm thinking someone biffed because like I said, they are supposed to clean out their trash racks not send it downstream. The hydro plants are granted outages for doing exactly this - cleaning out the trash racks.

If you have fished near the dam on the lake recently you would have seen this massive trash island, it had grown HUGE from the flooding etc. I always hope there would be some sort of function to clean it up instead of flushing it down int the gulf.

That seems like something that could have been handled better, starting with folks NOT littering in and around the lake. I get sick of seeing our water and riverbanks littered up by people with no respect for it.

This is embarrassing but I’m glad it’s getting known. It was like that on the chick today. Not as bad as that but I could tell there was way more trash floating then normal. I remember hooking and fighting a coke can for a minute before I realized it wasn’t a fish. It went left and right lol.

A company over in Cleveland, GA Storm Water Systems has been pitching TVA their products. Stormx systems that would capture lots of this trash. I feel a lot of the trash is coming from rain run offs. Check out the link to their website. This will be coming a hot issue in the next year. We need to get behind these folks and push TVA to look into this further. http://stormwatersystems.com/ We were on Nick Saturday with all the trash in the channel I thought we may catch some Mahi Mahi

When I was on Nick Saturday I could see a lot more trash than Ive seen before. Certainly not pleasant to see when your out on the lake.
