weed kill

Not sure what you seen them doing but richland Creek has plenty of grass that has not been sprayed. I think the grass is just coming up much slower this year. Probably because they took so long gone raising the river to summer pool. There were mats everywhere this time last year

7:45 this morning 2 "Aquatic Services" airboats were heading up Birchwood Pike, tanks loaded with herbicide to dump in our water supply!

I can't imagine dumping weed killer in our water supply is the best thing for our health.....

They sprayed Dayton Boat Dock at the back of Richland Creek @ the ramp.
may be for the new project there starting to connect downtown Dayton with the water by walking track.

They dont have to pull individual permits for each application anymore. Legistlation was passed to allow one blanket permit to cover ALL aplications of herbicides. So write you local and state representatives if you are trully concerned. My biggest issue with it, all of this area's water supply comes from the TN RIVER AND SOME OF THE MAIN AREAS BEING SPRAYED ARE WATER INTAKES!!!! Smoke on that!

That right there is perspective. I have always been concerned with what herbicides do to the bass. Not what it does to the water we drink. That makes it even worse!

The state web site (Richard gave the link above) lists the herbicide permit holders from 2008 for the Chic. It lists 15 permit holders, I am sure that the number has increased dramatically since then. The grass was not as widespread then as it is now. Looking at the state regulations, they can pretty much spray when they determine that they need to and as often as they decide they need to. The permitting program is written in government language and you would need a lawyer to really understand it.

Spraying of the grass is something that needs to be controlled better, but with the list of permit holders being 8 years old, I guess this is not a priority with the state.
