What does it cost?

Here is a little different view of gas cost. Last year,I ran 380.7 miles on the GPS, and put 54.2 gallons in the boat. That was on 17 trips to the lake. The total year evens the filling. That would put me at 7.02 miles to the gallon, also used a gallon of oil. I launch at Soddy, CFP or RP most of the time, as they are about equidistant from home. I agree with the others, drive to the launch closest to where you want to fish, as my truck gets better mileage than the boat. I am running a Ranger w/ a 115 E-tec, heavy boat compared to some, but I don't normally run more than 20 -25 miles in a day's fishing. Used to run a small Dynatrak, with a 60 HP motor, and didn't do any better than my current rig. Hope this helps.

i have a 99 200 pro vee bumblebee with a 96 200 Merc efi. on a avg evening fishing a 4 hour wildcat tourny i will burn between 15 and 20.00 in fuel. I dont run far and spend most of my time fishing. Remember that 20 bucks in fuel is only about 6 gallons of 89 octane fuel.

sorry guys i didnt finish my first reply (dinner was ready) anyway... we ran from Dayton to the 60 bridge then to Cottonport and back to Dayton last weekend. I burned a little more than a 1/4 tank of fuel which works out to 30.00 and app 10 gallons of fuel. I ran hard... 4500-5000 rpm with a full load on board...2 ppl tackle etc. Anyway I dont consider that to bad with all the starting and stopping we did.

That not bad for a 18 year old motor with a bad rectifier and 5 year old spark plugs and a millon hours on it.. I remember when i could run from the canal ramp on FT Loudon to Little river on 16 gallon.... the new motors indeed get better fuel mileage but they cost a bunch also and are alot heavier than my 2.5 liter... Im a poor guy so i have to run what i brung...maybe someday i will be able to afford a four stroke but havent decided on what brand yet

Well, I cant say a whole lot, my 18' Stratos with a carbed 150 Johnson gets about 2 MPG. My next motor will be a Yamaha 4 stroke. My brother has a 90 on a 17-5' Polarcraft and I think it makes gas. It sure don't seem to use much and it will push the boat to 48mph with us two fat guys in it.

i have been hearing horror stories about the SHO.... they seem to be "making oil" meaning the rings don't seat well and th fuel blows by into the crank case. Then the engine doesnt get hot enough to burn it off.. I got a friend who has blown 2...1 at 55 hrs the other at 41...... kinda scares me...maybe a verado or honda....dont kno yet

yep just had the conversation on fastbass. the SHO block doesn't even have sleeves in an effort to reduce weight and as such it makes the block disposable since there is no way to rebuild if something occurs.
