I got my boyfriend a nice fishing rod for Christmas. We are going up to see my parents in Chattanooga.

I'd like to know what kind of fish are in Harrison Bay. If there's like marlins and sharks, it might not be good for the fishing rod I got.

If you're wondering, I got a PENN Squall Level Wind Reel & Rod Fishing Combo (30 - 6'6" Medium Heavy - 1pcs)

I hooked into a bull shark in Harrison Bay my last trip. I fought it for about 5 minutes before it broke me off. I was using a chunk of bonito.

The manatees are thick in HB this time of the year, they like the irradiated water that flows from two upstream nuclear plants. However, the only method of take is by harpoon.

The Penn Squall is an excellent reel and will hold like 600 yards of flurocarbon line. The marlin and grouper fishing there has slowed down considerably since the tva put some dams in the Tennessee River...however i caught just as many of those as I did bass on my last trip. Just keep the receipt and if he is looking for a different type of fishing rod and reel he could exchange it ...and I dont know of any man that would not appreciate a girlfriend who is as thoughtful as you are..

Thank you so much! :)

you are welcome,,,
After giving this some thought...most of the fish that are most likely to be in Harrison Bay are likely to be smaller than a lot of the fish that you will find in the various fresh and salt waters in florida. Thus if you wanted to be really spot on with your gift choice and if you have time to do so, you could exchange that outfit for the Abu Garcia Revo X with a 6.5 ft or a 7 ft rod in medium heavy or heavy rod and a 6.6 gear ratio on the reel and he would have an outfit that could be used in the canals in florida as well as light salt water duty and also be used in a lot of lakes and freshwater applications. It also comes as a combo at that exact price.at Bass Pro.. But that is just my thoughts and others may want to chip in their thoughts here....

But most importantly what a wonderful gift idea as well as having to foresight to bounce the selection off of area anglers..
If my girlfriend did that I would just assume she had wrecked my truck or something..

emoLaugh lol. It's a Christmas gift. :)

That's good info about the fish, and what "outfit" to get for the rod! I need to do more research. I know nothing. Thank you!

ok...and in the spirit of Christmas..Harrison Bay is a big shallow cove in a freshwater lake. The combo or outfit you bought would be a great rod and reel for fishing the ocean or offshore for some species of saltwater fish, like a lot of people in Florida do. However it would not be a good fit for fishing for smaller fish like bass, catfish, stripers and etc which is the most likely fish to inhabit harrison bay and lake chickamauga in general.
So if he will be fishing offshore in Florida you bought the perfect outfit, however to fish harrison bay and the lake in general he would need a different outfit or combo (both of which simply means the rod and reel come together ) and therefore to fish the freshwater lake the Abu Garcia Revo I mentioned which comes as an outfit/combo (rod and reel together) would be the best fit for fishing Harrison Bay and would still suffice for some light salt water fishing.as well. Harrison Bay should be called Harrison cove ,,,and if the Christmas gift is intended to be used while you are down to visit your parents the AbU Garcia rod and reel which come together is a better fit and at the exact same price. Bass Pro will do a swap ...so in a nutshell you bought a very nice outfit for saltwater,,,but for Lake Chickamauga the ABU Garica Revo rod and reel is the best fit I see at the exact price . So not only are you thoughtful but apparently wealthy..
.Merry Christmas and please forgive some of the humor we attempted in our initial comments..

Over around all the marinas you will find numerous mud sharks. If you catch one be careful, they can smell terrible. Good luck. The Penn may get the gears stripped out if you hook into a full grown one.
