We can play the "What if" game forever. What if we didnt do all that bail-out crap, and competition sorted out the weak, and we would be better off in the long run? Two can play that game.

Scott Brown's stunning electoral victory in Massachusetts yesterday confirms to the world what we have known all along: patriotism and common sense are alive and well. Horray!

Well lets quit playing it, fact is we were not any better off under total Republican control either. Truth is they are the ones that caused this mess and now seem to have all the solutions. What we do know is we bailed Chrysler out in 79, saved thousands of jobs, Chrysler became more competitive and they paid the money back in three years with 350 million in interest. I am not trying to play games. I am just trying to make a couple of points. Keeping it civil. Is that not what you said?

Geez...you have to go all the way back to '79. That is about all Carter did while in office besides embarrass the country. BTW..you burned the civil bridge a long time ago talking about mentally/physically challenged kids on another post; of which I have one and took offense far and above anyone else on this forum.

You want to talk about a party increasing our debt. What has Obama done? 1.4 Trilliion and climbing...As if that was not bad enough, now the Democrats are wanting to further tax all financial institutions except...Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Where is the 'transparency' that was as the forefront of the Obama/Biden ticket? How about the bi-partisanship Obama preached. The democrats never gave it a chance. That is why they are getting tossed out on their rear ends.

Also MA has a state run healthcare system similar to the one being proposed on the federal level now. The voters know it does not work so they rejected the one that would have been a major proponent of it.

My division headquarters is just outside Boston. Most of my co-workers work part-time so no insurance paid by the company. In my talks with them, they seemed pleased with the state run program. Matter of fact, the commuters from NH would like to be on Mass. plan. According to them, Brown campaigned that the Federal takeover of the state run healthcare would weaken it. So IMO the state ran plan works fine in Mass and the Federal plan would be a downgrade. In most other states it would be totally different (ie state plans are weak and the Federal plan would be an improvement).

I also noticed that Brown carried areas that were hardest hit by unemployment. Economic worries played a bigger role, IMO, than healthcare.

Of course what is not being reported in the mainstream media, is that Brown won't be available to cast a vote on the healthcare issue. His inauguration will be after the healthcare vote. emoSorry

......after the healthcare vote? That will be a disaster for the Democrats in November. IMHO. Let me see...the Dems have had total POWER since November 2006....in the House and Senate, can anybody see any accomplihment that have done for the working man? Anything?

One 79, was last big government bailout if I am correct. Sorry you were offended, you should be, did not mean it like that. Obama has increased the debt. However, so did Reagan, and Bush. Let a Democrat do it and it is time for him to go. As far as the civil bridge I have since tried to do better, and will continue to do so.

This is the reason we have states so they can experiment and if the plans are successful then other states will follow. The Feds should have no part in our Healthcare system.

Keep your pants on, I was just being rhetorical. I wasnt accusing you of doing anything mean-spirited, but stating we can second-guess untill we are stagnant. </p>

You are right there Spur. It does not matter what your political beliefs are, Economics is a theory. It is just a social science. You take what you have learned and try to build on it. When it comes to alot of things these polititians don't have a clue. Reagan had one of the biggest cabinets of any other President. when reporters would ask him questions about certain things, and he would say, I am sorry I wasn't aware. I believe him. I don't think it was early stages of alztimers. Another thing, I am not happy with the bailouts, however I believe it to be something that needed to be done. It was not just the banking and automobile industry that would have been effected. With the automobile industry, they were producing a vehicle that people could no longer afford to drive. It wasn't them being incompitent, how were they to know Katrina, and 9/11 were to happen. Those are outside market forces that were out of anyones control. In my opinion it effected the housing and automobile market and trickeled down. All the government has done is make loans to those industries effected while they have time to adjust. Some have and are coming back strong. Others may take longer. I can understand Republicans wanting to be in office when it happens, as a party that is what they should do. I don't know for sure but I see Obama having to work with a republican congress next year, which will be better, if they don't try to bully, and instead take somekind of ownership in what is going on.

Republicans should be careful for what they ask for, or are praying for....they just might get it. If they win House and Senate seats this year and take control of Congress again they will once again be "On-record" and will lose their "Just Say No" status. The American people will expect them to do something productive and provide solutions. Which I'm quite confident they have no "Idea" how to do. Funny how history repeats itself. Ask ole Newt how that worked out for him in the 90's. It's playing out almost exactly like that now. As demonstrated over the last year Republicans are very effective as the opposition party, who's only job is to say "No". They have not been effective at all when they have to come up with solutions on their own. It seems to me, a better strategy for them would be to "Lay low", keep saying "no", and when this President is a complete failure as all of them know he will be, ride in like heroes in 2012 to save the day, just like Reagan did in 1980. Little risky I know... Because, if the economy keeps turning, if some sort of healthcare reform happens and people are not dying in the streets because of it, if the job market improves, if the bailout money continues to come back in, they are screwed for the next decade.

I don't think we have a lot to worry about Danny. Olbummer will go down in history as a complete failure with or without Republican assistance.
I sure would like to know where this "turn" in the economy is occurring. I would bet that about 20 million unemployed folks would too.
