Why do you fish?

On a early spring day the water starts warming and you know the fish are where they were in the past years. You sneek in a cove your heart starts beating and everything you were thinking about disappears. Sometimes you tell youself does anyone deserve such excitement. That is why I fish. Thanks God.

I have probably been asked a version of this question a hundred times in my life, and I can honestly say that I equally enjoy catching bluegill in my pond or bonefish on the flats of the Bahamas just the same... I have been very fortunate to have been able to fish around the world for a great number of species, and have been thrilled to watch my children also fall in love with the sport. Some of my greatest friendships have been the result of fishing trips and those that I meet on the water, recently this forum has been an added blessing to my life as I have begun to fish the local waters again.

My answer to the question "Why do I fish?" - because I so enjoy being in the areas where the fish live.... it"s not about the catching, but about lifting your eyes off of the water once in a while and enjoying this beautiful world that our Creator has made for our enjoyment.

Why i fish, Well thats an easy one ... to get away from my wife and the honey do list...ha ha no really i fish because i love the outdoors, I love not knowing what you might catch, i love spending quality time with my dad, and lord knows the only way i can do that is to go fishing with him, i fish because it is relaxing and keeps my mind right and keeps me from doing other things that might lead to trouble. I fish for the peace and quite .... i fish because i'm a fishing junkie ha ha in other words i'm addicted. i constantly think about fishing and i get on this forum at least 4 times a day to see who is catching what. i fish because i love fat crappie in the frying pan .... you cant buy fish that good anywhere.

It's simply the escape. I hike and kayak for the same reasons. In fact, I enjoy the escape so much that my interest actually fades somewhat when the lakes become crowded. Gimme quiet, gimme solitude, and get me away from the masses.

How ironic is it that most of my favorite fishing, backpacking, and kayaking trips have all occured when I was solo? I loves me some solitude!

it's my way of meditation, and I love it. it's the best way for me to get the hustle and bust el of the week off my back. I love to go even if I don't catch anything. a bad day fishing is better than a good day at work.

I read something the other day that made me smile and I printed it out and have it on my wall at work......

A LOT OF MEN FISH THEIR ENTIRE LIVES AND NEVER
FIGURE OUT THAT IT'S NOT THE FISH THEY ARE AFTER.

My .02................have a good day.

Rob, I liked your answers. Especially about getting away from the masses. Most of the time when I go fishing, I will fish places where there aren't many people around. I don't want to intrude on someone who is already fishing a structure that I want to fish. I will usually pass this by and go look for a new place. emoBigsmile emoGeezer

NOTHING LIKE BEING OUT ON THE WATER AT 7 OCLOCK WHEN THE SUN IS JUST COMING UP AND THERE IS NOT ANOTHER SOUL TO BE SEEN JUST SIT BACK AND LET THE WORLD PASS YOU BY IF YOUR LUCKLY ENOUGH TO HOOK A FISH THATS JUST A PLUS

i used to fish because i love it and it clears my mind but now i fish so i can eat! the economy really sucks !

I started fishing as a child with my Dad. It was one of the ways he had to put food on the table for a family of 10. But my love of fishing has evolved into more of a religious experience for me. I have the peace & solitude to worship & thank the Lord above for everything that I have. I agree with polo-dog when it comes to sharing of techniques and "secret spots". I have made many new friends and showed them how to fish, the best I know. This has come back to me 10 fold and has continued to be a source of strenght for me, since I have become disabled. Fishing can be many thing to many people, but to me it is MORE than just a sport. It is a way of life.
