<font color="#ff0000">"I believe we should all give to and where we choose, not where politicians choose for political gains. I currently support several organizations of my choosing because I believe them to help the people most in-need, without societal leeches getting the bulk of my donations. I prefer to support "hand-ups", not "hand-outs". Let's take a look at how I make a living in order for the government to asses taxes upon me.... I am subjected to a physical and drug test to gain fruitful employment. For my efforts I am required to: Be drug-free, and reasonable good health To get my butt out of bed early five days a week To maintain a vehicle that supplies me reliable transportation to and from work To maintain a place to live And pay taxes on my house and vehicle. All of this allows me to stay employed, and I am then subjected to state, local, and federal taxes on the income I work very hard for, to pay for all sorts of important and some not-so important programs. Let's now look at the fact that most homeless people are (not all, I understand) at a minimum alcoholics, and/ or drug users. I have never heard of a drug or sobriety test to receive the tax money collected from me, to give to these folks or any other entitlement program, (i.e welfare or the like) whether in monetary form, free meals or fancy new living arrangements that are being proposed. When are the people getting my money going to be held to the same requirements that I am? I have not always had so-called "luxuries" I have in my life. My entire life I have busted my rear, many times working two jobs, (with and without a car) fought, struggled, done without, and gone hungry to get what I have. No one paid for education, cars or houses for me. Everthing I have is what I earned myself. This is why it should be completely my choice whether to give more of my money than already taken from me for these types of programs not already mandated and funded by the federal govenment. If this country doesn't start to wake up and realize where we are headed, we will continue down a dangerous path." </font></p>

You brought up education, curious to know what school you went to. I am assuming it is private, since you paid for it.

I did go to a private school, but my parent's taxes at the time helped fund public schools. I agree, I should be able to donate to whom I wish without the government taking from me and donating to people that may or may not be deserving.

Bottom Line local communities should be the saftey net for unfortunate citizens not the government. The local community is far more efficient in these tasks because not only are they closer to the problem but are more able to hold recipients accountable for their behavior. Spurhunter is correct. I should be able to choose whom I want to donate my hard earned money to instead of the gov't choosing for me.
