Cold! We had nineteen boats to sign up. We had nine to show up and brave the weather to fish the first CFF of 2023. It was cold! Ice kept freezing in the guides on the rods and on the reel spools! Ronnie and I decided to fish on the lower end of the lake. On my third or forth cast I taught a nice 3 lb. plus keeper on a rattle bait. i thought, "Ok here we go now!", but that was not to be! I never got another bite all day long! Ronnie did on the other hand and saved our bacon. Ronnie caught one short fish on a rig. Then he caught one on a crank bait and four more on a shakey head worm. One of those was another short fish. Of the other three, one was a pretty nice spot that we culled. His other two were very nice 3 lb. plus keepers. We ended up with three keepers that weighed just under 11 lbs. and was lucky enough to get second place. We threw jigs, rigs, crank baits, shakey heads, and silver buddies. The fish seemed to be in about 8-10 fow. Water temp was 45-48 degrees with a lost of current. Congrats to Billy and Steven on the win with three fish that was over 13 lbs. They also had a 6 lber. for big fish. Hope to see everybody for CFF no. 2 at Nickajack out of the Shellmound Ramp on Mar. 4th!
