Jmax - 10/31/2008 6:24 AM I tried that "Change" thingie the other day and it did not go over well. emoScratch Went out to eat and saw a homeless guy with a sign that said,"Vote for Obama!" I laughed thinking of the irony of it. When I went in to eat the waiter had a tie on that said,"Obama". At the end of the meal I told the waiter since he was voting for Obama and wanted "Change" I was going to put into effect his policy. I told the waiter about the homeless guy and said I was going to redistribute his tip from him to the homeless guy who you could tell needed it more then him. He got mad and stomped off. I gave the tip to the homeless guy and he was very grateful. I will say that it does not have the effect on people like you might think when it is happening to you as the one loosing the money. The waiter who worked for it did not get it but the homeless guy that did nothing got it and was grateful but really once spent would be no better off. I wonder if that waiter will continue to wear that tie? emoRolleyes Jmax

Man you all just don't get it,

Most doctors, some small business owners, big business CEO's, pro sports players, most people on TV, hotel owners, these are the ones who will pay more in tax, not most of you all on this forum. Why can't the man making 300k after taxes afford to take home 280k after taxes. If no one can afford to buy his product anymore he might have to settle for 30k.

I worked for it why should i give it to that person who did not.

TW,
I do get it. It is my opinion that Obama's plans for the country will be detrimental for future growth in the economy and national security.

The people you refer to as the rich, the doctors, CEO's and such, already pay higher taxes, they already pay 80% of the tax revenue for the country. And they create the majority of Jobs for the country. How much more do You want from them? When they pay 90+% of the income in taxes will you be happy?
I bet when the rich are taxed into oblivion job creation will cease. Every job I have ever had in my life came from a rich person, I have never been offered an employment oppurtunity from a poor man.

Yes you worked very hard for the money you have in your pocket, most do as well. And this is the main core of the conversation, I want to keep all the money I can in MY Pocket. And let ME determine how to distribute it, how I deem appropriate. Whether that is through the consumption of goods and services, or through charitable donations, or through Job creation.

Tyler, just remeber this, when you step into that booth to vote and the curtain closes, nobody will know who you voted for.
Just don't be like many that are affliated with groups like ACORN and vote early and often....... emoPoke

Doc1,
I have a warm and tingly feeling most all the time, not just when I post on here.............I might want to get that checked by the doctor.

Man you all just don't get it, no one want to hand stuff to people doing nothing, Mr. Obama is talking about easing the tension felt my probably most everyone on this forum, actually there must be some rich people on here.

Hey there tylerware,
In case you have not been keeping up with it the Obama folks started off saying anyone less then 250K a year would not be seeing a tax increase, then later they lowered it to 200K, then just the other day the man himself(Obama) was put on the spot and he said 150K. Now it was said by one of the top folks on the Obama adviser board that they were more then likely going to be looking at 120K. I have said it before, the only thing about "Change" that Obama keeps showing me is he is constantly changing his plan.
emoBang If a man and woman have pretty decent jobs it is not uncommon to have a family income of 120K. I thought that fell in the middle class? emoScratch

Don't trust him, don't trust him, don't trust him....... emoAngry Jmax

Tyler, they all get it but keep trying to work the fuzzy math on you. I for one am glad to see someone level headed that can think with his brain and make a rational post on here, some on here wouldn't believe Jesus Christ on anything, their minds are made up and most won't even vote. I think they get a warm and tingly feeling just to get a post in print.

Doc, who are you too judge anyone on being "level headed"? So If someone's opinion is different than yours, they are just wacko huh?

You put the "wacco" in the post not me.

I think you are sorely outnumbered here. I guess that makes the rest of us idiots.

One reason the stock market is down so far is because its highly likely a democrat will be elected next week. Just remember, the stock market is a measure of where people think the economy will be in six months, not where it is today. It became apparent about a month ago that Obama would be elected (most likely) and everybody's 401k has taken a bloodbath.

OK, I was trying to stay out of this one but I just can't help myself. Another reason I would not vote for the Obama machine is he has already said that he plans to do away with the inheritance tax break and capital gains. emoBang Yes, this would make some money to pay for some of his ideas but I can tell you it will hurt a lot of folks.

Let us say a family member dies and leaves you 50K. As it stands right now you get it all. You can inherit as much as 700K (I wished) and not have to pay taxes on it. He has said he wants to do away with this tax break. He plans to treat it as supplemental income. Now for anyone that does not know, supplemental income is taxed at 46%, reguardless of your income level. emoAngry Under his plan, you would only get 54% (27K) of your inheritance. The rest goes to none other then the ol' governement who I am sure will take their cut and spread the remaining. If your relative has already paid taxes on this as their income, how can this be called "Your" income. emoMad

Capital Gains, in short if you invest money into something and have it over a year you get a tax break for incouraging growth and new business. If he has his way that will be gone and again you pay full taxes on any gains you see from your investment. this in turn will cause less investment and in the long run discourage folks from doing so. Stock market hit, here we go.....emoMad

Let's be honest here about something else too. He and his machine has been saying all over the place that taxes are too high right now and you can blame that on Bush and McCain. Now if this was true.....why would we not see a tax decrease when he went into office. emoScratch If he truely believes what he keeps saying then would it not figure we should see a reduction? He is only saying that the middle class and below...(less then 120K now) will not see a tax "increase". So he plans to keep it high as he has already admitted. emoAngry

I had better stop before I get going.....sorry to have gotten too much into this one but he is killing me.

Some of you guys crack me up!!! You talk like you are the CEO of Exxon, when in reality you don't pull down more that 50K a year. But it sounds good though!

Flip Flop I'm Taking a bath................So which is it; Are we rich, like has been mentioned before or are we Poor as you assume?

And just so you know I do aspire to be wealthy.

How do you know what we make? Do you make more than $50k? Jmax is right on the money! Obama = more taxes and that won't help anybody.

outcaster if you have a 401K or any kind of defined benefits plan you are an invester. Where do you think it is at right now? emoScratch You don't have to make a fortune to do that. I have been in the market for over 30 years now and have taken a blood bath here recently. I am concerned that you seem to believe that if you fish you are some kind of red neck good ol boy with no kind of investment or brains for money. I bet if the truth be known most of the people on here have some kind of retirement program, benefits plan or 401K. If you still do not fall in this group then I will say if you have a job then the business you work for does and if it gets too bad on them you may find yourself unemployed. You just proved my point....a lot of folks seem to believe this does not effect them. IT DOES!!!! You just don't know it or understand it. Business will cut back, jobs will decrease and get worse.

Heck I am getting worked up....I had better stop, you just go fishing and dream about one day retiring. emoRolleyes Jmax

Your right, I don't know how much you guys make. But I suspect that very few posters on this forum have even sniffed a quarter million dollars, let alone list it on a Federal tax return. Making $250K per year and having my taxes go up would be my definition of a GOOD PROBLEM to overcome. This years election is simple: I you like the way things are going in this country vote for McCain. I you would like to see a change in direction, vote for Obama. "Thats all I have to say about that!" Forrest Gump

O.K.....I am sorry,....

I get it now.....

Outcaster ='s Forest Gump and 1+1=2, 2+1=3,..ex....ex....(I'll try to keep it simple for you outcaster.)

Let me try this another way....

No 401K? No retirement plan? No defined benefits plan? No investments of any kind?....

Well....how about a savings account or a checking account that earns interest?
Most folks have that at least. Where do you think that interest you earn comes from? emoScratch It is invested and you get a cut. If investments go down so does you interest. emoGeezer Have I hit anything you have yet? Tell me so if I have not I will keep thinking. I bet there is something....

emoConfused Jmax

P.S.- Just for your knowledge we do have a couple retired CEOs that are members as well as doctors, lawyers, managers, brokers, executives of large companies. I know of one vic president of a large company on here that is a member. I think you may be surprised.

beetlespin - 10/31/2008 5:45 PM Jmax, you are already my hero for being a better fisherman than me. Now you are my hero for another reason. You DA MAN!!!

Truly historical post here. At least the election produced something worth while.

Remember Brewster's Millions? I say we vote for none of the above.emoEvil

Have you even looked at the economy lately? Or do you just accept everything Rush and Sean Hannity says. Sounds like you believe (wealth and power) trickle down from the top. I think by now everyone (except you, George W. Bush and John McCain) has seen that trickle down economics doesn't work very well. Your investments going south are the direct result of the economic policies that you are defending. And yes I do have a 401k and a checking and savings account, and no, I don't need an economics lesson.
