Wasn't sure I was going to try it on Saturday morning 5/25 due to the weather forecast for storms / rain and the fact is was Labor Day weekend. Got up that morning and it wasn't raining and the forecast said the storm wouldn't start until around 9:00 so off I went around 6:45 am. Headed to HBSP and it started raining. Got to the park and the rain stopped and I launched. I started to head to my first spot but heard thunder so I stayed close to the boat slips. I'm glad I did because the storm started at 7:30 am. Ended up hanging out in a boat slip for 2 1/2 hours. The second wave of weather was pretty rough. Finally around 10:00 am it had mostly passed and I headed out. Water temps were 77 - 80 degrees. Winds were light once the bad weather passed. Water clarity was pretty good. I managed to find some fish on rip rap banks. Once the sun came out it seemed like every big cruiser on the Chick had to pass right beside me. I believe the wave action stimulated the fish to feed although the waves made strike detection very difficult at times. I ended up catching and releasing 13 bass in about 6 hours of fishing. All fish caught on shakey head worm in green pumpkin. Most of the hits were right on the bank. Nothing big, biggest was 2 3/4 lb. Best (5) fish would have only went 9 - 10 lbs. but it turned out to be a fun day. The boat traffic was rough but like I said the boat traffic likely was responsible for the activity. Everyone be safe on the water. Summer is here and our lakes and rivers will often be very crowded. Let's operate our boats responsibly and keep out eyes up and alert to what is on the water.
