On Sat Arizona Democrat Congresswoman Gabreille Giffords was shot in the head as she held a "town hall" style meeting to discuss issues and update citizens. Six are dead, including a Federal Judge (appointed by George HW Bush), and a 9 yr old little girl who had just been elected to student council and was eager to learn more about politics and our political system. Seconds before the little girl was slaughtered, she learned the sad tragedy that the direction of our political system has now taken. During the last election cycle the right wing political rhetoric was the worst I've seen in my lifetime. Right wingers were calling for a "Second Amendment" solution, while claiming that THEY were the REAL patriots, and were defending the Nation from those Liberals, you know.... the ones who are evil, and seek to destroy our Nation, and take away our freedoms. Just last year the local offices of Rep Giffords were vandalized just after her "yes" vote on Health Care Reform. And in the last election she was "targeted" by the tea party (Sarah Palin) with "cross hairs" on her District. Even Mrs. Giffords' tea party backed opponent held "Get on Target for Victory" rallies where his supporters could shoot an M-16 rifle at the event.

This "Lock and Load", "God and Guns" political rhetoric being spewed buy the right wing is not just a metaphor. Some are now acting on it. Comparing the President to Satan, Hitler and Stalin, depicting ones with a liberal view, as evil, and actively seeking to destroy this Nation, calling opposing views on ones religious beliefs "straight from the gates of Hell" are all part of the plan. Now we have seen the results of this rhetoric. Those with a megaphone, whether provided by public office or a media outlet, and social media posters have responsibilities. They cannot avoid the consequences of their blatant efforts to inflame, anger, and outrage. We all know that there are unstable and potentially dangerous people among us. To repeatedly appeal to their basic instincts is to invite, promote and welcome their predictable violence. So long as we all tolerate this kind of irresponsible and dangerous rhetoric or, in the case of some, treat it with delight, reward it, and consider it funny, those with a "D" will remain in the "crosshairs" of danger.

The notion that this is carried out, and often rewarded, in the name of the Constitution, the Bible, democratic rights and liberties, and patriotism is a mockery of all this nation claims to believe and almost all of us continue to struggle to preserve. I fear that this is only the beginning. The only way to derail this coming trouble would be for the reich-wing to return to civilization and get past their hatefulness toward those who disagree with them.

Danny, you're better than that. To blame a political party for the actions of a mentally/socially deficient asshole is WAY beneath you. If you need to assign blame, try putting it on the people who bring us the actions we see everyday in the movies and on TV that are portrayed as "socially acceptable entertainment". Your kids play any of the new computer games??? There's a great learning experience for you.............................

Are you saying that the most recent political climate with it's daily doses of hate, fear, and references to "targeted politicians", 2nd Amendment solutions, and M16 shootings at political rallies played no roll in a mentally unstable idiot putting a bullet thru the head of a godless liberal elected official? But instead ignore all those facts and place the blame on video games? The hatefulness with violent overtones spewed from far "right winged" politicians, media personalities, and individuals cannot be denied, and is not a product of my imagination. My "Blame Placing" was spot on. Consuming this hatefulness, along with the other things you mentioned are all some mentally/socially deficient asshole needs to act. Pointing out the nasty political climate and assigning blame to those responsible for it, is certainly not beneath me. Are you surprised by the fact that every single act of domestic terrorism within the last two decades have been committed by that particular political group? And this latest tragedy is just another example...... walks like a duck..... swims like a duck....quacks like a duck..... It's A DUCK! Instead of shaming me for pointing out the TRUTH, what we should do is have a civil conversation about issues and ideas, and those that use them, leave the references to Hitler, Stalin, 2nd Amendment solutions, and Satan at home. I understand that there are left winged idiots in the Democratic Party as well that take good ideas way to far. The right winged wacko/Bible thumpin element of the Republican Party is taking over, and pretty soon there will be no room left for a moderate person with moderate ideas. BTW we don't play "Black Opps" or "Modern Warfare" in my house. This conversation reminds me of the words of one of my hero's Harry S. Truman who said "I never gave anybody hell..... I told them the truth, and they thought it was hell"

What is amazing to me is that EVERY SINGLE conservative I know thinks this scumbag that took out his OWN form of justice should be strung up and hung.....the Liberals want to feed him three hots and give him a cot for the rest of his 60-80 years.....

To even HINT that one political group approves of these actions is way beneath a decent person Danny, not sure what is going on, but I have always thought more of you.

Words and rhetoric have responsibility and consequences. You say that you despise the actions of this individual (and I believe you). Do you also despise the words and rhetoric, and hatefulness that sent him to that point? Some people want to spew their hate and fear filled rhetoric when someone acts on it sit back and say " What?... Me? I didn't make him do that?

I was wrong Danny. I admit it. Seems that you are NOT better than that and it is NOT beneath you. I apologize. I did not in any way mean to make you out to be something that you are not. Again, my apologies.

I knew it would be just a matter of time before the tragic murders were politicized. My deepest heartfelt sympathies go out to all the victims especially the family of the little girl. The punishment for the criminal should be swift and severe. As far as politics go there will always be loons on both sides. The loan gunman is the price we risk as a free Second Amendment society.

It will never be beneath me to call a "duck" a "duck". Calling out the wacko, extreme right wing of conservative movement for their rhetoric, spewing hate and fear, and lies, and correctly tying it to the tragic event in AZ is certainly not beneath me. For those of you that do not share their hatefulness, but feel I have lumped you in with them I apologize. For those who share their hate, and condone is rhetoric, I could not care less what they think of my opinion. But it needed to be said.

Accusing the other side for "politicizing"? Let's see...Rep Giffords (D) recently won a close political re-election against a Tea Party, Sarah Palin promoted candidate. She was re-sworn into Congress last week. Held a town hall meeting yesterday, and was shot thru the head for what appears to be her liberal position on illegal immigration. But it's not political? This was not some random act.

Why do you always have to be divisive? Pitting one side against the other. We as a nation suffered a physical attack on one of our congress members. Right wing, left wing really doesn't matter at this point. What do you want to do? Limit free speech? Since in your mind people can be talked into murder by political rhetoric. This isn't the first time cross hairs have been used in political rhetoric by the way. JD Hayeworth (R) had cross hairs used against him in his bid for political office in Arizona in 2006. The Black Panthers stood affront election sites sporting batons in 2008. Does that not qualify for voter intimidation? I can go on and on. Again loons exist on both sides and hateful rhetoric is spewed by both sides but that is the price we pay for freedom.

I guess we can blame those nasty conservative talkshows. The shooter was suspended from college til he had a release that showed that he wasn't a danger.Just like in the Fort Hood shooter, political correctness has contributed to another tragedy. Both of these scumbags gave signals that they were unstable but nobody would act on the clues due to making someone feel uncomfortable. Its time for people to take responsibility for their own actions and not have the left or right making excuses for them.
I dont see how anyone can condone the actions of the Westboro Baptist

I saw a report on TV today that stated the shooter was an admirer of Marx. That being the case, how can he be called a conservative who went on the attack? Wouldn't it be correct to say a Marxist admirer went on the attack?

Yeah, I see where the Tea Party founder is already attempting to spin things his way by calling for the party followers to refer to the shooter as an "Liberal" "Lunatic".

As being reported by ALL media, this quote from an acquaintance of this lunatic:

A high school friend of Loughner, Caitie Parker, has given a detailed account of his personality and background on her Twitter page over the past few days. According to Parker, Loughner had "a lot of friends until he got alcohol poisoning in ‘06" and dropped out of high school.

She described him as "left wing" and "quite liberal" and "oddly obsessed with the 2012 prophecy."
