With all of the tx going on this season, I wanted to make sure that I stay courteous to the tx fishermen. I think I heard it said that 100ft is a respectable distance? I won't not fish an area just because someone feels like it's 'theirs', but I do want to stay respectfull so any info is appreciated. THANKS!

Nice thought, but courtesy goes out the friggin window as soon as the blast-off starts around here. The last 2 weekends, I have had someone that frequents here, and KNOWS better, come up the bank, that I was fishing, close enough for me to hand them a coke. I didnt say a word but its coming.

I feel it's rude to jump in ahead of someone that is obviously going down a bank and start beating same bank just ahead if that the other guy looks like he is gonna continue down. I don't do it to others, and don't like it when it's done to me.

Saturday one of my NBT members was cut off by two boats staying very close together while fishing on Bennett Lake. These two were staying within 20 feet of each other. One boat had one person in it and the other had two. They cut right in front of my guy where he was casting. He controlled himself better than I would. He asked them if they were fishing one of the tournaments and one of them said no and they just pretty much ignored and walked all over him. Again he kept his cool which is good since his son was with him.

However whoever they are, they are bums with no sportsmanship.

Our club rule is 50 yards of another competitor. I always make it a habit of swinging outside the other guy even if they come up on me and I feel they have intruded when I was already on the spot. Maybe my courtesy of always giving them the inside will give me some better luck. The wife always tells me it's about carma.

All good advice so far. I dont fish TX, but get plenty of mad TX guys near me. since I am a "trash" fisherman, and only bass fish with live bait, I get dirty looks comments, and even had guys cast at my boat, hitting it with lures...good thing I dont have any gel-coat left on my boat to worry about. Last year, I even asked the guys that hit my boat, if there was a problem with where I was fishing..(I was anchored) and he said..."well, WE are fishing a TX and your in a hot spot". I wish I knew if they were forum members cause I would have posted who they were. None of the folks I know personaly on here that TX fish would do that stuff though. Overall CFF regulars are the best group you will find to fish, some even invite you over for coffee and snacks! emoLaugh

Tournament fishing is like any other sport. Some people want to win at any cost. They cheat, cut others off, Pull in on top of other fishermen and one of my biggest pet peeves, Bent Rod Scouting. Chickamauga is the worst lake I have ever seen for this. Don't get me wrong, I love Chickamauga lake and the tournaments I fish there. The fisherman just don't seem to be as courteous as other lakes I fish. This type of behavior on Watts Bar during tournaments will get you cussed out and has led to people being punched in the mouth. On a side note, a buddy called me from Soddy Creek last night, he was pre fishing for the Catch Challenge. He said somebody shot at his boat twice from the wooded ridge behind him. He said he thought it was a .22 Short or high powered pellet rifle. I'm curious if anyone else has had anything similar happen in that area?

There is no such thing as a courtesy "rule", however there are a lot of opinions as promoted as courtesy rules. Just don't forget what the "public" in "public waters" means.

For me personally, if I see someone fishing in a certain area, I try to observe and see which way they are trolling and try not to cut them off. When in doubt, it doesnt ever hurt to ask the other boater just to make sure you dont cut them off.

We got cut off last saturday in the cff tx on the nick, the bullet ran up to a point we were trolling to which we were maybe 50 yards from max and started throwing catching a real nice fish on their first cast. I thought what _ ssholes but its unfortunate that how some people are when on the water and in a tx.

I will agree for the most part with what all have said. To be clear, there is a difference of cutting someone off (within casting distance) and going 50-75 yards ahead. And to agree with the act being rude, we are not fishing for hundreds of thousands, so be competitive but respectful! Also, we all know that there are a lot of community holes on the Chick, and I have had people pull right beside me and cast a different angle, though a little rude it was still just an old beat up community spot! Most importantly lets try to enjoy our tournaments and each other!

I'm with SpurHunter, people come right up on you, then say "Sorry fishing a tournament." While I'm just out fishing for fun, I still spent my money and my time to be out there. Tournament or not. I always try to stay at least 100 yards from other fishermen. There are plenty of spots.

At some point some folks must learn the hard way and get their -ss whipped one good time for being uncourtous and pulling in on others . Maby then they will ascoiate getting their -ss whipped with their reckless behavior. If they don't I suggest pick a different sport are get a tough chin. Its really a damn shame we have to post a rule not to run all over each other. I run the Monday nite out of Chesterfrost Iam seriously thinking about having no rules for how close you can get, you can even get in the other person's boat if you spot them with binoculars or the hubble telescope catching a fish doesn't matter. I figure with this it won't take long to get rid of the guilty . They will either get beat to death or shot.

I second Guntersville...Nickajack can be bad at times also. I just try to not cut someone off. When I say that, if you want to go 500 yards ahead is one thing, but give a little space...

I will be honest. When I go to the G I expect it. This way when it happens I am not surprised. Like the old saying goes "When in Rome do as the Romanss do".

BustinBass,

the very reason I don't waste my time going to Guntersville. I have enjoyed several trips there, but I go fishing to help keep my blood pressure and temper in check. If i have to take BP meds to go fishing, I'll just fish my farm pond and catch bluegills. I enjoy the sport and the sportsmanship to much to put myself in a situation where i might lose my cool. AND it can happen on the "G" in a heartbeat.
