Does color matter?

Wednesday while fishing I wore a long sleeve bright yellow shirt. My partner argued that the popular bright colored clothing (yellow, orange, lime) will be seen by fish and scare them away. He states clothing should be muted to not attract attention. He points out that lures often use bright colors to attract the attention of fish. Good point. Does he have a valid argument against using bright colored clothing?

If your fishing shallow clear water with spooky fish....but look at the jerseys and wrapped boats the pros fish out of

it definitely matters if you're sight fishing(if you can see the fish, they can see you)! going down the bank casting or sitting off shore.....not so much. the clearer the water the more i'd be concerned about it

Gerald Swindle will tell you that we are talking about a fish and we are giving them too much credit. However, I can see how a fish would look up and see this bright color and get spooked. Both ideas make sense to me.

In theory I could see it matter especially in crystal clear water like others mentioned above but if that's the case I would be more concerned with the color of the bottom of that 20" boat above their head, trolling motor sounds, electronics signals, etc.

I think the fish would see your boat. Even the bottom of it would scare them, so color of shirt wouldn't matter. Wonder what a fish thinks of a big dark blob close to them.
