I have seen a tape that stuck to its self but not to the handle and was tacky when it got wet, unlike the 3M electrical tape. It was available in several colors. I did a cursory search for it but couldn't find it. The wrap mentioned earlier for tennis handles and golf handles might be the tape I am thinking of.

Rod Wrap, might be what you are looking for.

I was just trying to save you some heartaches about finding some good tape. If you have a reel seat, you won't need it unless you want your hand to stay warm in the winter.

PS...I have tried the braid and gave up on it last year, mono is fine with me.

Tommy tape stopped the heartaches I had with electric tape. No reel seats for me, been using TN handles for 25 years now (although I prefer a split grip TN handle these days). Sorry braid didn't work out for you. These days I use it for about 70% of my fishing needs (ie my all around line). I save the springy mono for just a few speciality presentations.

Doc1, what is next? Are you going to tell me you still prefer fiberglass rods (or maybe ask why you can't find boron rods anymore?). Just kidding.:)

can i end this argument......

I have used electrical tape for years....... it will eventually lose its grip...and when you peel it off...it is guimmy underneath....

BUT...my gosh you tape right over it when you put it back on the rod.....

SO WHO CARES IF IT IS STICKY UNDERNEATH!!!

Now, go argue about something worth while like.......

emoPoke like what to do when your electric tape gets slick because it is wet from rain or sweat from your hands?emoBigsmile

I fish in the rain quite a bit and all I have ever used is 3M Super 33. Never dropped a rod or lost control because it was slick. I'm not the nervous type and have a clear concience so my hands don't get sweaty either.emoBigsmile

i am with you doc1 i tried the braid and didn't like it, i guess its just a matter of what works best for you. and all my old walmart rods have reel seats so i can't comment on the tape issue.

I like rod seats, with that being said, for those of you that like to use electrical tape, 3-m seems to be the best" electrical tape", also you might use a little electricions trick, take the 1st layer and turn it upside down"sticky side out " then flip it and continue, electical guy do this makes doing repairs easy. makes removal easyer..

I think the main idea behind Tennessee handles is so that you can position the reel where you like it personally. I like that plus the fact that the TN handles are larger and they give you more to hold onto especially with the smaller lighter rods.
