I am getting a new to me 2018 Ranger Z521C that has 3 Lowrance HDS 12s along with a Garmin Livescope LSV32 tied to a Garmin Echomap 92. I am hearing a lot of people are now running a battery just for these items. The boat has a Minn Kota Ghost 36V and 4 new Lithium batteries. My question is should I consider adding another battery just for all the graphs and such? If so what battery would be a good one for the Graphs and such

Thanks for any help

I have a dedicated lithium battery (Dakota) for my FFS. This fall I'm making the switch to lithium for my TM. At the same time, I'll rewire my other sonar units into the FFS lithium battery. Performance (clarity) and durability (esp in hot weather) is markedly improved with lithium. If you fish 12 months out of the year, you'll wanna do some homework on lithium performance in cold weather. Not all lithium batteries are created equal.

This is good advice, all lithium are not equal. I've considered lithium batteries for a while, haven't made the move yet but I've done a lot of research. One thing I'd make sure of with the seller since it is a 2018 is that the outboard will allow a lithium starting battery. Many outboards have problems from the higher current and just the general current curve of lithium batteries.

Yes. I have a 05 or 06 Mercury 225 Opti. And Mercury said no to lithium batteries.

Yep - Choochoosnake dood and Rob nailed it. And I failed to mention that I am still using a wet acid battery for my cranking battery (2018 Optimax 2-stroke). When I have everything set, the only things drawing juice from the cranking battery will be the big motor (starting), pumps/recirc, and running lights. I won't have to worry about sonar units draining my starting battery. The key here is demand - FFS and the new generation sonar units use a LOT of power. Lithium gives you improved endurance and performance from a charge cycle.

Choochoo - I chose Dakota. Their products had the best rating (and customer survey results) for cold weather performance. Ol' Airborne fishes a lot during the cold months.

So I got my new to me 2018 Ranger Z521C.. Its an awesome rig. So the starting battery is a AGM battery. The 3 TM batteries are LiFePO4 Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries Group 31 all bought in 2023 (Darn things are 749 each). The onboard charger is a Minn Kota Precision MK460PC and is good for those so I am good.

Congrats on the new rig, sounds like an awesome set up, enjoy!

Ive had my 125AH Ionic Lithium for 3 years now, it runs all three of my HDS units and Active Target 2. I have a 2012 Mercury proxs with 1500 hrs, I have had zero issues. I will never go back to lead acid. Here is a short video of me catching a blue on Chickamauga this past spring. Notice my my voltage on the overlay, from my hds pro 10 at the bow.
