Ronnie and I bounced back and forth several times trying to decide on our game plan. Finally we decided that we were going to just rely on what we had done in the past and just go fishing! We ran up the river to our first stop. On my first cast I fired a shakey head worm out and let it sink to the bottom. just as I picked it up I felt a small, faint little "tic" and I thought, it can't be? I set the hook and thought I just had a keeper until she came out of the water and I yelled at Ronnie to get the net. She weighed in just over 6 lbs. Not a bad start! We fished that area for a long time slowly moving back and forth. We caught two more keepers and a couple of short fish. Then I made another long cast and was working the worm in when it just stopped. I leaned back and set the hook and it took off down the river for about ten yards and the line popped! We never saw it but I'm pretty sure it was a big large mouth. Shortly after that Ronnie gets a really good cull for us. Right after that we moved and went to throwing spinner baits mostly. We caught several other fish but never was able to upgrade anything. I think we caught around 15-16 fish total and all on shakey's and spinner baits. We later weighed in our three fish at just over 12 lbs. but just shy of Ken and Chad Hartman. Congrats to them on the win and big fish!
