There's a new show with Mick Iconelli (sp?) which has an interesting twist... he goes to a major city in the US and they have to catch a "limit" of about three different species of fish that is predetermined before the show. Like 3 stripers, 3 false albicore, and 3 Blues. All in four hours without leaving the city limits. The one I saw last week he was in NYC, where was my first job for 8 mos right out of college. I NEVER thought of fishing for bass in Central Park, which he did with a spinner bait and a backpack on his back. I was too busy watching and meeting the girls when I used to walk in Central Park!!!!! But I thought it was great to see a quality fishery right in the heart of Manhattan.... they caught some nice fish in the bays and rivers. pretty interesting.
Bill Dance, I'll always have a place in my heart for. I grew up watching him and my Dad and I ran into him filming a show on Lake Gaston in the late 70's or early 80's. He was gracious and REAL then. But I can't disagree with the posts above... Roland Martin catches awesome fish, but I can't stand to listen to him talk. You guys mention "The Southern Sportsman". I grew up watching a guy who had a zebra motiff on his plane, boat and truck.... is that the same guy???? They also did a cooking segment, which I always think is cool.
Living in MN, I got my fill of Babe Winkelman and The In Fisherman. But they are really good as well and try their best to teach along the way. Hank Rocks.... Jimmy Houston is good as well. But my fav would have to be that guy in the 70's and 80's on the Southern Sportsman with the zebra painted plane/boat/truck. He rocks. Can't believe any of you didn't bring up Virgil Ward!!!! He's up there with Marlin Perkins, isn't he? Legend.... I finally got to fish those northern waters... And for those of you that always complain about a guy making a buck!!??!?!!? Are you serious? Why so bitter? I mean, I would hawk brown dog turds wrapped in gold foil if someone paid my bills so I could fish on my own show.... gimme a break! You would to.
