The best ever for learning about how a pro thinks and fishes were the old shows that Larry Nixon made. I only saw them on one channel in the past and I think that it only ran for a couple of years but it was the best teaching show and Larry is really the best bass angler ever. I also like the "Day on the Lake" show. I enjoy In-Fisherman as it is good at teaching to a degree.

I like Bill Dances old shows. The one with him and Billy Westmorland on Dale Hollow is a classic. They were throwing 1/16 oz jigs and wearing the monster SM out. Not to wild about his new stuff. I guess now I would have to say FLW outdoors.

Although it's no longer on, in my opinion, SCHOOLED BY DENNY BRAUER was the best fishing show ever.

I don't watch Hank Parker for good reason. Attended a bass fishing seminar a few years ago where Hank Parker was one of the speakers. Afterwards, My wife and I were talking to him and he agreed to have his picture taken with my wife. When I got the developed roll back from the camera shop I noticed that his arm was very low and it was obvious that his hand was on her behind. I also noticed that she's never smiled that big in any picture I've taken of her before or since.

big fan of mr. hank parker myself, I'm a fisherman and I hunt so I love when Hank mixes it up with a day in the stand on callin in
gobblers.

I would defiately have to go with The Bass Pros and Ultimate Match Fishing. Those are two of the best shows ever. I have learned a lot from The Bass Pros and UMF is just fun to watch. Did anyone see it last season when Luke Clausen pushed his competitor in the lake then acted like it wasn't his fault? I used to like Luke when he was first coming up until after what happened at the Classic that he won and then on UMF.

Go Fish with Fish Fishburne...The guy acted like a buffoon, but watching him with his dad fishing off ladders in the middle of a pond was great...According to many pros I talked to at the 2005 classic, he may be one of the best sight fisherman ever.

Probably In-Fisherman.

How many of you remember the Virgil Ward Championship Fishing TV Show????
ole Virgil sure could work a bait through a fishtank!

"From the lakes of northern Canada
To the Gulf fo Mexico.
Wherever fish are biting
That's where we're going to go.
There's a lot of exciting country
Just waiting to be explored.
So join us now in the great outdoors,
The World of Virgil Ward."
;)

...man, i'm gettin' old.

and you have the right to be! I'm gonna have to listen one day!

Charlie Moore!!! Just kidding. Bassmaster and Match. Do enjoy some Hank Parker too.

There's a new show with Mick Iconelli (sp?) which has an interesting twist... he goes to a major city in the US and they have to catch a "limit" of about three different species of fish that is predetermined before the show. Like 3 stripers, 3 false albicore, and 3 Blues. All in four hours without leaving the city limits. The one I saw last week he was in NYC, where was my first job for 8 mos right out of college. I NEVER thought of fishing for bass in Central Park, which he did with a spinner bait and a backpack on his back. I was too busy watching and meeting the girls when I used to walk in Central Park!!!!! But I thought it was great to see a quality fishery right in the heart of Manhattan.... they caught some nice fish in the bays and rivers. pretty interesting.
Bill Dance, I'll always have a place in my heart for. I grew up watching him and my Dad and I ran into him filming a show on Lake Gaston in the late 70's or early 80's. He was gracious and REAL then. But I can't disagree with the posts above... Roland Martin catches awesome fish, but I can't stand to listen to him talk. You guys mention "The Southern Sportsman". I grew up watching a guy who had a zebra motiff on his plane, boat and truck.... is that the same guy???? They also did a cooking segment, which I always think is cool.
Living in MN, I got my fill of Babe Winkelman and The In Fisherman. But they are really good as well and try their best to teach along the way. Hank Rocks.... Jimmy Houston is good as well. But my fav would have to be that guy in the 70's and 80's on the Southern Sportsman with the zebra painted plane/boat/truck. He rocks. Can't believe any of you didn't bring up Virgil Ward!!!! He's up there with Marlin Perkins, isn't he? Legend.... I finally got to fish those northern waters... And for those of you that always complain about a guy making a buck!!??!?!!? Are you serious? Why so bitter? I mean, I would hawk brown dog turds wrapped in gold foil if someone paid my bills so I could fish on my own show.... gimme a break! You would to.

Well heres my favs..

Lindner's Angling Edge - Very educational
Scott Martin Challenge - It's like a 30 minute dogfight.
Roland Martin - He just cracks me up. All the advertizing. "Hook remover, Sun screen, Frog Toggs" He's definatley a face for hire. However, he is a great fisherman and innovator. He also has the best music. Bobby Bare and Banjos during the fight.
Bass Pro - Educational
Hank Parker - He was my fishing hero when I was young. Along with Roland Martin
Benny Hull - Mainly cause he fished local spots, but his production is pretty bad. Wouldn't take much to make it a little better.
World's great Fishin' Show - I haven't got to see it much, but what I've seen is good

Bill Dance seems a little fake to me. Mainly cause he always fishes monster bass private lakes. I like seeing the fish, but I also like to see pros catching fish like I catch. Plus 99% of his follies are staged.
Jimmy Houston gets on my nerves. Plus ever since I read about him taping hunting shows in high fence management areas I lost respect for him.

Great thread. I really like Bill Dance because he seems like an old friend I have been watching forever. Benny Hull because he is such a talented fisherman, that fishes local water. The size fish that Larry Dahlberg catches is unreal. The giant catfish (loui loui?) he caught in suriname made me wonder if EricM was going to take a trip to South America!

I am going to have to go "old school" and say my favorite was the original American Sportsman hosted by Curt Gowdy. I used to watch that when I was a kid.

I liked the Walker’s Cay Chronicles when it was airing. Didn't care for the color commentary, so I would mute it and not listen to all the talking.

Versus has a new program called Dollar Wise Fly. It is new, but looks entertaining. Another good one is Chasing Silver, where anglers are throwing flies to monster tarpon.

I will agree with Nickajack Angler, that the Mike Iaconelli show is very entertaining. Great idea, fishing inside major urban city limits.

bd angler also hit the nail on the head when referencing Larry Dahlberg’s Hunt For Big Fish. He does catch huge fish.
