This is more of a thank you post than a fishing report.
Dad and I started out exactly where we wanted to first thing after blast off. We were in the middle of the pack heading down river and I needed to get left to our stop which was a little sketchy lol. I should have started out left of the pack in hind sight. Anyway it was a shallow stretch of rip rap that has produced for us in the past. The only fish we could catch there was a short SM and a short spot on a jerkbait. We had some other bites there but they were short striking and not latching on. Spent an hour or so there and moved down river to some smallmouth stretches and that was not working. By this time it was about 10 o'clock and we had zero keepers. Our plan all week was to run and gun. We have been on some fish down there so had a decent game plan. We saw the first wave of boats that started up at the dam come down the river so we thought we would head up that way. We ran into the lock area and dropped the trolling motor. I didn't know it at the time, but that would be the last time I raise the trolling motor for the day. Dad catches our only keep of the day on a tube shortly after stopping. A really nice spot over 2 pounds. We think cool, maybe we can get 2 more of those to at least have a bag. Didn't happen. Fish around there until 11:30 or so and go to raise the TM and the mechanism that the rope is attached to does not move. It is stuck in the deployed position. I can tell what the issue is, but I cannot fix it. I spend about an hour on it and give up. looks like we will be trolling that area the rest of the day. I guess if your going to be stuck in an area, that is about as good of an area to be stuck in as you could ask for. I feel like we should have still gotten our 3 fish but I was mentally out of it to be honest.
Still great to be able to fish these things with my Dad. He always has some good ideas when things get slow and/or frustrating.
Thanks to smalliefan, bronzeback, and hoop 235 for the help with my motor at the weigh in. Taking the time out before you weighed your fish sure was nice. Hoop 235 finally showed me where the release pin was located so that the motor could be taken off the front of the mount and laid back on the deck to be repaired later.
And also thanks guys for helping Dad in the parking lot coming and going.
Great group. See yall next time.
