The water temp difference is supposed to be 4 degrees differential. Go fish below widows creek and you will find out they are nowhere close. Its as much as 40 degrees higher.

Thanks, Ragsman! Great diagram and info. I'm sure we all appreciate the time you put into this for us. Thanks again!emoThumbsup emoThumbsup

Excellent info and post Ragsman - Thanks! I was an I&C Engineer there for 7 years in the 90's pushing paper and you just educated me - glad to still be learning something new about the Nuke!

You cat chasers ought to see the size of some of the 'cats in the forebay (other side of the retaining wall) near the actual intake ... When I first started there one of the guys in the group threw a couple of bagels in the water and they looked like cheerios when those big ones swallowed em whole. Of course, now security frowns on feeding the fish. My groups office area overlooks the intake and we see all kinds of crazy critters - a couple of months ago we saw a bald eagle at the intake and a few weeks ago I got some pics of a coyote swimming across the forebay ....

I know, of course, that it is a TVA Security Guard's job to frown on darn near everything... but I must ask why they would frown on employees feeding fish???

The security fence runs along the wall there where those big fish are, and it has all kinds of motions sensors and hi tech detection thingamabobs on it. They like you to stay away from it.

I worked there during the generator chaneout and several other outages a few years back and we used to go down there and feed the cats popcorn, bologna sandwichs and a little bit of everything. there are some true monsters in there!

We placed the cooling towers in service today (Sunday, 7/1) at 9:00 am. They went in to prevent exceeding the maximum downstream temperature limit, not the delta T limit. They were in all day, and might still be (I'm home now!). Anyone out there this morning notice, or notice a change in the bite?

I was out there yesterday morning when they went into service..but I didnt notice any change in the bite....which was almost non exsitant as far as catfish go...water temp at the intake was 84 degrees and just below the discharge was 87. I didnt see very many people catching cats however Whisler11 was having a good day with the bass.
