We arrived at the ramp with a game plan to run up river a ways to hit an area that historically had been good for me, after putting the boat in the water and sitting at the dock I notice the water temp (apx 72-72) I told Charlie I had an idea of a location close by that we need to go look at he said no problem, so at blast off we make a short run to a spot. We pull in and we make a cast, Charlie hooks up I grab the net .. keeper 1 while I am putting it in the live well he hollers for the net again, keeper 2 and I have only made one cast. I told him hold on a minute let me cast one.. I get back on the deck and notice what if going on.. we were in the middle of a shad spawn, I grab the spinner bait and for the next 2 hrs we probably catch 30-40 fish( we had limit in the boat before 0700) we stay in the area throwing a few different baits trying to get an upgrade, we did cull a few times but only by ounces. We make a couple of moves to go try to find a better fish, with no luck, about 11 we go back to the staring spot and get what would be our last upgrade . We fishe water from 2ft to 20 ft , shallow dock and deep docks , points, but all fish ended up being caught in 4ft and less on plastics, spinner baits, and square bill. I believe we finished 5th with 7 something.we probably caught 50+ fish total today, I did catch one of the largest “ skip jack” I have ever seen it looks like a small tarpon.. I payed it on my board that measures 20 inches and it hung over. Overall a fun day just couldn’t get a bigger bite, congrats to the winners .
