I guess some of you have noticed I have not posted the first fishing report all year......their is a good reason for that fact.

I moved from TN to GA January 1st and had to change my registration of course. Little did I know what was in store! When I moved, I found that my TN Registration card had gotten wet and was illegible, so I tossed it..........bad idea! If you do not have this card to turn into GA you have to jump through all kind of hoops and red tape to get a previously registered boat from another state registered in Ga. Even though I had the paperwork from where I registered it at the courthouse, GA would accept nothing but the TN ID, with several other documents including a Bill of Sale. After about two months of going back and forth about what I had and what I needed the gave me a temporary registration number that I could use on the water. Only problem was that it is only good in GA, TN will not recognize a GA temporary registration. Since I did not have one I had to take my boat to an inspection station conducted by the Ga Wildlife Resource officers; which by the way is scheduled at different counties throughout Ga on different weekends for two specific hours of the day. If you don't want to pull your boat several hundred miles you have to wait for the inspection to be held at a county near yours, which I don't think they ever have one in Catoosa County. After I waited for three weeks and drove to the nearest inspection in Calhoun, had my inspection completed, it took about two weeks to receive my official GA registration sticker, here it is April.....

Now, I still can't "legally" haul it to the lake because I now have to contact the Police department to send someone out and have my trailer inspected so I can go get a GA tag for my trailer! If you ever move from another state to GA with a boat, be prepared!

Maybe I will eventually get to go fishing this summer, I am getting closer......................

A friend of mine is going through the same thing. The lady he has been dealing with told him he was registersd in the system and if he had any road/waterside trouble that he could just give whatever officer his name and other info and it should work out until his paperwork has cleared.
He's fishing on a wing and a prayer! Good luck, Johnny-hope it works out! emoThumbsup

Man that sucks. It shouldn't be too hard to get an officer to do a VIN verification on it. We have people call in all the time for them and we just send an deputy out between calls, or if we're slammed just have them come to the SO/PD and have it checked in the parking lot.

You should have posted this when you first got it there is a way around all of what you just went through I could have helped you out. Oh and you could have left the boat reg
Registration in TN if that's where you fish the most, that's what TN dnr told me.

Yeah, the person in the registration office told me the same thing. One of the GA Park Rangers, whom is a good customer, is the one that told me TN would not recognize the Ga temp regostration

Johnny you could have it kept registered in TN and been OK. My Stratos was alway registered in TN and it's perfectly legal. The boat is to be registered to the state of primary use for that boat, in most of our situations it's Tennessee.

That will probably be the easiest part, I think it is down hill from here.

I just left my boat registration in TN too, got asked about it a couple of times and always got away with it.
When it's too much of a pain in the a$$ to follow the law, people find a work around.

Don't move to Virginia. I just got tag for my trailer after two years of rants with VA DMV. The wanted to charge me an addition 5% sales tax. The county tax office event went so far to call me when I was on wildfire in Idaho last summer asking where my boats was so they could come and do an appraisal. I was like " you got to be kidding me".

That brings to mind a couple questions; if you live in GA can you register a boat in TN? If you have a GA address, do you get GA or TN boat insurance? Not sure you can get TN insurance with a Ga address or get GA insurance on a boat with TN registration. Very confusing now, lol.

It has nothing to do with wear you live. It's by primary state the vessel will be used/docked. I have GA drivers license, GA state farm insurance on the boat and my last 2 boats were registered in TN, legally. Been stopped and checked by Mr green jeans many times and completely OK. Only reason my new boat is registered in GA is because the dealer already had it filled out so I just left it.
