Gander Mountain announced a chapter 11 bankruptcy, that's reorganization. The Chattanooga store, surprise, is on the closing location list. The expected date for completion is mid May. We may see a great GOB sale soon.

Them coming here and opening a store never made any sense any ways. I went there a couple times and realized real quick they were not going to be competitive. emoDoh There was just no attraction to go back. If a big box store is going to come here to be shopped they had better first of all do their homework to see what kind of pricing they were going to have to have in order to get the traffic. Sportsman's Warehouse, two Academy's, a Bass Pro, Dick's and a Cabela's, not to mention the mom and pops with the department stores mixed in. When I went there the normal price was high and the sale prices were usually getting them down to where others were normally. That is not a winning combination. emoCrazy Jmax

Your right jmax. That place is extremely high on most things you could occasionally find a decent deal in there I went there several times but rarely bought much. It's nice to look around when your better half is next door at marshalls

I've always been blown away by how high they are on most items in the store. I was there last night and it was a ghost town and nothing was on sale.

Got nothing good to say about gander mt. Maybe the close out sale will make up for ridiculous prices and Pityful service.

They were NOT having a sale today. When they do have a going out of business sale their prices will be down to everyone else's normal prices.

They won't have a sale! That's been their probably from day one. They will box their stuff up and send it to other Gander Mtn stores. Everyone knew it was gonna tank from the first day it opened.

I never liked the Gander Mountain in Hixson. Like other people have said, their prices are way to high. I've only bought a few things from them that I thought were a decent price. Their tackle selection wasn't that great. Personally, I like the store in Huntsville AL better but I haven't been there in a few years.

As of Tuesday (03/14/17) no indications of price reductions related to the GM store closing. Fishing Department had a couple of shopping carts loaded with reel boxes and demo reels on those little short handles. Not sure what that may mean. No employees around. Usual high prices on all the fusing stuff. Picked up a couple of small items. Spoke with the lady at the checkout, she didn't really have anything to say about the news that the store is closing.

Yeah...what they said. Great name -- Gander Mountain. Everyone goes in and "takes a gander" at everything and never buys...anything. "What's good for the goose is good for the gander." emoTongue

I think so. Went looking for a trolling motor recently and Sportsman was the only one to have a 70lb minn Kota in stock. BPS wanted $650 and had to order, Sportsman warehouse had in stock for $575. I think a lot of places are cheaper than BPS.

BPS is not the place I go to get a bargain. They just usually have more stock of what I need and the odd items but still expensive.

Can sportsmans survive competing with academy, bps, and cabelas?

Funny you mention that because I was in SW yesterday and had this discussion with another CFF member I ran into. I usually see him at BPS...lol. We talked for about an hour. We both said we can find a few specific things that Academy and BPS don't stock. I'm not sure that will be enough with all of the competition though. I did buy line..a rod...and a reel while I was there. As if I needed more stuff !

@ 1st, I didn't think that Sportsmans Warehouse would survive with all the other stores. BPS has some decent sales but their prices are too high. Sportsmans Warehouse has one of the best plastics selections in the area. I think that they will survive if they could keep better stocked. It's just like everywhere else, it's a numbers game.
