I had the privilege of going with Dillon Falardeau from "Wishin I Was Fishin" yesterday with my Son (this was his 3rd trip with Dillon).
We started out in CFP and caught a couple decent fish early on a Senko and topwater. As it got a little later we moved out deeper and found several huge schools that looked amazing. We threw the boat at them with deep cranks, spoons, drop shot and a jig but just caught a couple 2lb fish. We hit another spot with little luck and then tried another good looking school which produced several decent fish on big True Bass Swimbaits and a drop shot using morning dawn Roboworms and Zoom straight tail worms wacky rigged.
After it slowed down we moved to some grass where we produced some more good fish over 3lbs on a Rage tail craw in Green Pumpkin and a Jackhammer Chatterbait. After some time we decided to move out deep to another ledge and we really got them fired up! We hammered them on the big True Bass Swimbaits and I decided to give that drop shot a try (which I have never really fished with much). I am here to tell you, it got on fire ??, we were catching doubles and one right after the other! I caught fish after fish on a drop shot seriously, every single cast I caught a fish for at least 5 minutes. Like I said we doubled up several times, and all would measure, several that went 3lbs and a couple 4lb'ers. Caught fish on the 8XD, on a Spoon, on the 3/4 Oz Jig but man the drop shot reeled em in! We stayed on them for a while but finally after it slowed down and rained a bit we moved to another ledge out towards the bay.
Between each place Dillon always gave us a ton of pointers on angles of attack on ledges and what exactly he looks for when looking for schools and what order he tries things to produce the most fish... We found one he had just expounded on and decided to try again.
I had been having so much luck with that drop shot, I wasn't putting it down. Sure enough, first cast and we are in them again. It's hard to believe but again, every cast I caught a fish for quite a while! All good sized fish, now this school got fired up as well and everybody was catching fish. Dillon hooked a monster on an 8XD in Tennessee Shad that we weren't able to boat but a monster nonetheless! The big True Bass Swimbaits continued to produce bigger fish (and they were choking it) on a 3/4 Oz head but I just sat back there, reeling them in one after the other on that drop shot ??.
We finally moved to the grass looking for a monster but we just didn't pull him out. Hit another ledge and caught a few more decent fish before calling it a day.
Absolutely one of the best days of fishing ?? in my life all thanks to Dillon Falardeau and Wishin I Was Fishin!
