So I ran into what I see as a wrong in that it leaves much needed, possible revenue off of the table for Hamilton County. I wrote the following to my District 3 Representative Greg Martin and have not received anything in the form of a response:
Commissioner Martin,
I bring to your attention an issue I encountered on February 13, 2022, while making reservations for camping at Chester Frost.
I was perusing campsites for the dates in the latter part of April and saw site # 67 available for six nights (4/25/22 - 4/30/22). When attempting to secure those reservations online, I got a pop- up that stated, “7-night minimum stay”, but only six nights were available. I called the Park’s office to see if I could reserve it for the six nights. I was told that it was ‘not available’ and that they hold that spot open in case someone wants to extend their seven-night stay or come early for the next reservation.
The Park attendant that I spoke with was very professional but even she said that she was just stating policy, which to me is very confusing. Why would the County not want to maximize their revenue by reserving a space for at least the six nights instead of gambling that someone “may” want to stay an extra day? It seems to me that if it is a “7-night minimum stay” that it should be reserved in blocks of “7 nights”. If someone wishes to stay say eight nights, then they pay for the full additional week or open the reservation to others. It is not a prudent business decision to make policy for the ‘what if’ scenarios.
I live local and thoroughly enjoy the amenities that Hamilton County has to offer. It is worrisome to me that this inefficiency is costing the County much needed revenue.
I appreciate your time and willingness to be available to the People of District 3.
Sincerely,
Commissioner Martin,
