High dollar sunglasses

I own costas, smith, Oakleys, Maui jims and others. Many years coaching in the sun and now fishing. People will disagree with my opinion but...

costas have great glass. I have both the 580p and 580g. The glass is better but they are heavy and leave the bridge of my nose sore after a long day. They also don't seem to have a frame that fits my face well. The wind gets under them and pulls tears out of my eyes when running on the lake. So the Costas are in my old Bronco and never go in my boat anymore.

Maui jims were great for a polycarbonate lens but the rubber nose and ear pieces seem to melt away after a few months. I have two pair and both have been sent back for repair multiple times. I now just leave them in my wife's car.

Revo has been my all around favorite and only cost me $50 bucks on sale. They stay in my truck and go kayak fishing with me. Very comfortable and very nice polycarbonate lens. Nothing bad to say about them.

In my boat glove box are Smith Optics guide sunglasses. They have as good of lenses as anyone and they have a built in retainer cord so they don't fall in the lake easily. They are also a little larger so they block the wind very well while running. That is the main reason they beat out the Revos. The lens is actually so large they look a little funny but for fishing I don't really care about the look as much as the functionality.

Yes I have way too many sunglasses.

Costa 580g. In my opinion is the only way to go. I like so many other said wore cheap glasses for a long time. Everyone would tell me to get some costas and I would love them. Well finally I did. Now I don't go on the lake without them. I have green and blue lenses both. Have 2 pair now. If you keep a watch on eBay you will find some at a great deal. My glasses when I bought them would have costed 250 a pair. I played 50 for one 60 for the other. One pair of them my son took fishing without asking. Then set on them and broke them. Sent them back to costa. I did not buy them new. They charged 50 to fix them and send them back. I thought that was pretty good of them. This was 3 years ago.

Costa 580g. I agree. Here is what I have learned.

#1 . . . You get what you pay for.

#2 . . . If they are not on your face, put em in the case.

I have had Oakleys on my face for 25 years from glasses to motocross goggles and won't wear anything else. They have a new style out called split shot designed specifically for fishing, they have some great lense colors

amber is the lens color of choice for me.

i work in the optical/eye field, have for almost 30yrs. the optics of a glass lens is better, heavier but better.

personally i wear $25 Calcuttas, amber lens with blue reflective finish, i can see what i need/want to see. i loose 1-3 pair a year in the lake and that gets old with high dollar glasses(been there done that). like so many things in life and fishing the higher priced items are arguably better but not sseveral hundred dollars better.

Love my costa's! I've had many pairs of fathom's and love them all. I've had a bunch of cheap sunglasses too and the front of the lenses always rub off after a month of fishing. I liked my oakley's too back in the day. You gotta have some kind of chums and if you are a hugger or at church, put them around the back of your neck when not using. I've had a couple pairs break from unexpected bear hugs. Ebay has great deals.

I have a buddy that ordered some "Grizzly" polarized glasses. Said he got a good deal on them. Somewhere around $30 a pair. We'll see what he thinks of them when he gets them.

I agree, Chums are a must. Or something comparable

Anyone use the smith optics polychromatic lenses? I see they have ones that start super light and get moderately darker? Sometimes my costas are too dark in the morning and I'm thinking some with a little variability would be good until lunch time.
