We live in a desperate world, my friends. Hatred, intolerance, and greed abound. Kindness, patience, and generosity do not. There are some pockets of humanity out there, but they seem to be overshadowed the priorities of the material world. The opportunity to turn this around still exists. We simply need to embrace it.
The time I spend here and on the water bring peace and a sense of calm to my life. I can always tune in and read something funny, historic, or family related. There's a kind of renewal that comes from our shared passion for fishing. It reminds us of better times, better ways, and better things. It helps us appreciate what we have vice worrying about what we want. There's achievement and learning, sharing and growing. Even when we don't catch them the way we'd like, it still brings a smile to our faces. It brings us hope.
As you share this day with friends and family, I encourage you to be the bright spot in your little corner of the world. Be the beacon for the good things, for hope. And should you cross trails with someone who is looking for hope, share the story of the little baby who was born into nothing, who lived to serve and love, who suffered unimaginable pain, and who is the keeper of the hope jar. Remind your friends and family that the birthday we celebrate today isn't about the number of years He lived. It's about how He lived.
I wish all y'all a safe, healthy, and restful holiday season. May your days in the coming year be filled with the good things. And when you feel the world starting to close in around you, remember hope was born today. Celebrate hope.
". . . and the word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory."
best to all,
