Re: Iaconelli: "They're not trun fans of our sport."

It's a huge problem not only in the Elite tournaments. It boils down to something less and less people have now and that is pride. They don't care who or what it costs as long as they are happy.

To be fair it is also a two way street. Tournament anglers don't need to move in on a guy just because he is fishing a tournament and he has money on the line. If not fishing the tournament I will usually yield to the tournament guy if he approaches it the right way with me. Some times they do. Sometimes they don't.

Re: Iaconelli: "They're not trun fans of our sport."

Completely agree. It is definitely a two way street. Pride is only one quality that many people lack nowadays.

Re: Iaconelli: "They're not trun fans of our sport."

I am not a TX lover, but I generally have a good opinion of Ike. He seems like a really likable guy from what I have seen of him over the years. MY issue with his article is the same as all the others, hes fishing public waters, then comparing it to "if I went to his job", NOT the same thing. I dare to say 99.9% of working folks don't earn their living utilizing public facilities and publicly owned merchandise. Is what these jerks are doing crappy, HELL YES. If I saw it myself, I would go and mess THEM up just for the hell of it! But I think he and the others just have to suck it up and realize its part of the crap they have to deal with to FISH TX's FOR A LIVING (on public waters no less). Not a bad gig if you can get it to me. How many of you would gladly jump at the chance to deal with his "problems" and switch jobs with him??

Re: Iaconelli: "They're not trun fans of our sport."

Sounds like a slow Tuesday on Chickamauga .......... I agree with spur I don't even fish tournaments and what Ike described happens to me almost every time I go fishing. I have a hard time feeling sorry for him. Even though fishing near other boats is a crappy move it happens to us all

Re: Iaconelli: "They're not trun fans of our sport."

Fishing near other boats isn't what he is describing at all. Just because he gets to fish and enjoy it for a living doesn't make what the other guy is doing right. Very little respect for the other man is out there these days.

Re: Iaconelli: "They're not trun fans of our sport."

Why do you think KVD no longer finishes like he used to? He didn't lose his edge or forget how to fish. Double edged sword for him when you think about it. Fisherman provide his paycheck, yet also take it away.

Erik, I agree with most of what you are saying. The only thing I see different is this is not as glamorous lifestyle for most as some people think. These guys are in the road over 3/4 of the year and most are barely making it. Yes some do very well, but most don't. This is one of the only "pro" sports where as more are broke then not

I don't think he would mind this happening if the guy was 2 miles away so I believe fishing near other boats is exactly what he described. Definitely a lack of respect, the guy messing with Ike is definitely being a jerk and what he did isn't right, just saying I don't feel sorry for him because it happens to us all. I have had people do exactly what he described to me more times than I can count, and I make less than $30k a year and fish in my free time. When you have your name written on your boat, you can expect dumbassery to follow

This exactly. I swear I think the power poles on my boat are magnets for other boats, but I can't even fathom what it would be if I had sponsor vinyl wrapped on the side. I would imagine the "fun" of the job gets taken out of it for many.

Re: Iaconelli: "They're not trun fans of our sport."

If guys are really trailering their boats following these guys around to poach their spots during tourneys the. That seems low to me. Didn't seem like he was targeting regular lake anglers but rather people who set out specifically to poach the pros spots.

Re: Iaconelli: "They're not trun fans of our sport."

It's not just a fishing issue, it's a society issue. Seems like nobody has any common courtesy anymore. I call it the "me" generation. It's all about how something effects them and that's all that matters.

Re: Iaconelli: "They're not trun fans of our sport."

We followed Tharp the last day of the Guntersville Classic, along with 60 or so other spectator boats. Amazing how these guys can even fish with the spectators, camera crew, drones over head....but that's another topic.

As the 60 boats are watching Tharp, some A-Hole literally starts fishing towards him. All the spectators yelled at him and he backed off. Well Tharp leaves, hits another spot and returns to the first spot 30 minutes later. This same A-Hole is sitting right where Tharp was. A few spectators ran him off.

it's a public lake, people should fish if they want, but they shouldn't jack a Pros spot until after competition.

Re: Iaconelli: "They're not trun fans of our sport."

I think Ike has a point. Its one thing to watch the pros see where and what they are catching them on, maybe idle over the spot to check it out with the electronics and mark it for future refenece after they leave it but don't ruin someone else's spot. That's just rude and shows no class what so ever. Personally I always try to check to see if there is going to be a tourney on chick every weekend before I hit the water or if I come across another boat I'll ask them if they are fishing a tourney. If they are I let them have the spot. Yes everyone has a rite to the lake and no one owns a fishing hole but that doesn't give anyone the right to be a jackass and cut someone off or ruin their day on the water.

Re: Iaconelli: "They're not trun fans of our sport."

Ike tried to poach KVD at the nuclear plant the last time they were here. No respect anymore in this sport or in life in general. "You're not part of the community!" Lol

Re: Iaconelli: "They're not trun fans of our sport."

people are ignorant is basically what it boils down to. I agree with him about using everything that you can gain from them just wait til they leave.I believe Rodney Carrington said it best when ppl start yelling out the punch lines. he isn't going to come to your house and throw rocks at you while your mowing telling you what to do.

Re: Iaconelli: "They're not trun fans of our sport."

I think he is crying like an entitled brat in that article. All this my fish, my spot stuff. Going as far as saying someone should go to another lake 30 minutes down the road just because pros are on a lake. There are no secrets anymore. If he found a school of fish I promise there were locals that knew about them too. What's the problem with fishing somewhere after he leaves a spot? Happens every day on chick.every spot gets fished 40 times on any given Saturday.

Your a pro. Take the good with the bad.those are the consequences! You can always do something else!

Because most of the time, people are fishing it because they followed the pro to find new spots. Mark it and leave.

Re: Iaconelli: "They're not trun fans of our sport."

Maybe, maybe they waited on him to leave so they could fish it. Maybe they found fish on Monday, he found them on Tuesday. You expect these complaints in a bass club. Not from a professional who has made millions from the sport. Just saying you want to fish professionally got to take the good with the bad.
