I generally dont rant much but i cant hold back the frustration any longer . Lol Hard to sit and watch the slaughter of Todd Beaty by others for keeping "his" fish. People have been so cruel online toward him even say he should be banded from every tx now for killing 1 fish. Interesting thing is that most Fishermen are also deer hunters that harvest a deer by killing it and hanging it on a wall to admire the rest of their life. If he is wrong for mounting the actual fish instead of a replica I think everyone of the jealous jerky who hunt should just watch bucks walk only taking a picture of it and then go get a replica made of the buck. Instead of celebrating with this fine gentleman ( who has taken very special care of every fish he catches in every tx) for a once in 10,000 lives opportunity he got, we criticize and cut down. Well... I guess that's the "new" fisherman mentality.

I’m more concerned with the extra ten billion out of state boats that will keep flicking to Chickamauga lake now because they all think they’ll catch a giant bass. Lake is too crowded already.

It belongs to EVERYONE
Guess my question to these folks is do you still support 5 fish limits for tournaments?? A hell of a lot more fish are killed with these limits than fisherman will ever take for mounting. How many times have you just dumped your bag and walked away?? Did the fish swim off or float back to the surface 10 yards later??
Maybe his fish was the 12 lb'r I released 2 yrs ago. I really enjoyed that fish (my PB) and if it is, even more that it has made someone else's lifetime fish mount. But I guess my personal trips to other lakes when big fish were being caught really tore up the locals too.. My travel $$'s supporting the local economy just for a silly fish!!!
My rant is.....Just be GLAD you have this in your backyard. IT BELONGS TO EVERYONE!!!

My son was 8 and I took him to fish a tournament with me a short Monday night one. He caught his personal best of 9.25. He wasn’t worth a crap the rest of the evening. We got to weigh ins and he won big fish. Ask me can I keep it and mount it? I told him that it was his choice he could release her for someone else and we can get a replica made or keep her. He asked me what he should do and I smiled and said it’s your fish nobody will be mad at you bu make a decision on what you want. He walked her down to the water and said hope to catch you again one day or maybe you will make some other person as happy as you made me and released her. “After we took measurements “ the whole point of that is so t damn someone for what this guy did. He could have take. Her Home put it on you tube filleting her and putting her in hot grease! Let the man enjoy his fish if you ain’t got something nice to say don’t say it

Completely agree. Enjoy your catch, young man. You earned it. The guy did what a lot of us have done, which is have a good fish mounted in our lifetime. If he had posted pictures of a big deer kill he would have received a chorus of "attaboys".

Hopefully those aren’t bass fishermen on the Chick that are criticizing. IMO, manners and etiquette on the water during the busy time of year is much more important than a gentleman keeping a once in a lifetime fish. I’d gladly shake his hand and say congrats where some of the other antics on the lake receive the opposite response

Was that at CFP this spring? I think your son beat us out of big fish that night! lol

As for the guy keeping the 14lber, his choice and nobody else should have a say in it. Bunch of keyboard warriors who have nothing better to do other than bash someone on FB. Those same buys crying about it will go kill a deer/turkey/duck or whatever and do the same but somehow that's different? Me personally I am going with a replica mount just because it's less of a hassle and they look great. I do hate the traffic and pressure our lake receives because of it though, now that is something to bitch about.

I can see both sides of the argument. He has every right to keep the fish, but that fish could have been the new state record next year or at the very least could have been someone else's pb down the road. I don't care either way. I personally would have done a replica but I will also never catch a bass that big. My concern is that his picture has been plastered absolutely everywhere and the lake will be swamped with everyone from everywhere.

while i support HIS CHOICE to do what he wants with HIS legally caught fish, i personally would have replica made and let that big female continue to reproduce and spread those florida genes. not sure where on the internet he's taking so much heat for this but i hope he's not taking it too personally!

as mentioned above the greater threat to the fishery is the care of tournament caught and weighed fish in the warm months.

I think what you're referencing to is all the hate he got on FLW fishing's Facebook comment section, which nobody really reads those. I read all the comments and thought over half were just completely sub-mental, and besides that who cares what other people think. He was well within the law to keep that fish and take it to a taxidermist. That is his American right. That is that. Besides did anyone stop to think that there might be a possibility that the fish he caught was actually Gabe's state record that he caught a couple of years ago. That would blow me away if it was the same fish, for the chance of that is not impossible. I caught the same smallmouth 3 times in about 3 months in a 3 mile stretch on nickajack. It was absolutely crazy. Back to my points, that fish might of been on the downward slope only getting smaller and not bigger! Alas, all I'm saying is that you should not listen to comments on Facebook because they carry no weight. As a matter of fact someone will probably criticize me for these comments and I won't care one bit.

Agree it's his choice and fully support his decision to get a killed mount made but add my support for the replica alternative. It's been my fortune (blessing) to catch 3 trophy fish. The best part of those experiences was seeing them swim away after I photo'ed and measured them for replicas.

Congrats, Todd!

Until TWRA makes it illegal to keep a bass, I have no problem with anyone keeping a fish be it 5 lbs or 15 lbs. Sure it could have been a record in the near future or it could have died from old age before surpassing the record, you never know. I assure you there are plenty more that size and bigger swimming around plus more up and coming. Personally I would not keep one unless it broke the state record and would be happy with a replica but that's me and the beauty of it all. You are free to make your own decision regardless of what others think! I'm just blessed to enjoy time on the water and catch some fish!

Good to see everyone remaining calm on cff and supporting the anglers decision. I think skin mounts look better than replicas but I have seen a lot of folks just frame a nice photo of the fish and hang that on the wall

While, I don't personally agree with killing that fish, and should I ever be lucky enough to catch one that big I will get a replica made. It is his right to keep any legal size fish he catches, and I support that right to do it.

Actually most of the hate being referenced is on the Facebook Chattanooga Fishing Forum page, mostly locals. Its really disgusting the way people are talking about the guy. All this does for me is guarantee if I ever catch one that big, Ill filet that sumbuck right on the dock at Dayton Boat Dock and record it.

I'm pretty sure they had to kill that fish Gabe caught to classify it as a state record. Thats why the guys that caught that fish over 15 on Pickwick a few years ago let there fish go, b/c they didn't want to kill it. There is a story about it somewhere and it's a good read. Same with Shane's 7lb spot on Parksville.

Shoot, I didn't even know there was a CFF Facebook page haha
