Great fish young man don't blame you for keeping it. 365 x 5 =1825 so he has 1824 more this year he can keep.So 1 out of 1825 is not to bad. There 365 days in a year your allowed 5 bass per day equals 1825 you can keep by law.

I agree with most the gentleman had ever right to keep it. Each of us have our own reasons for making the decision we do Personally I had rather had the enjoyment of seeing the fish swimming off since it aloud me the pleasure of catching it. Also I have always heard the artificial ones look as good and last a lot longer. Even if I was to ever catch the record (not) it would never be official. I would not kill it to have dna testing done. I would donate it to the aquarium or turn it loose. This is in no way shape or form condemning this gentleman for keeping the fish but what I would do.

Fish that big are old fish towards the end of their life cycle. Some bass will live to 20 yrs tho. The eggs, fry, are stronger from the mid-size fish too- not from the big one's-from what I understand. All I can say is if and when I catch one over 10, its going on the wall. Congrats to that 14.5. Fish of a lifetime!
