Hello gang, hope all is well with everyone. Did my annual trip up to the Chick and don't think I could have picked a worse week. :( High winds and waves, small fish and poor weather. The winds about blew us away. We were hoping to get on a bedding bite but with the water dropping we found on the Chick that bite was just not there for us. We finally found some willing to play on primary and secondary points off the main river leading back into spawning flats. Several of the places I wanted to fish was getting blasted by wind and waves so we had to pass many of them. Still managed 28 bass on Tuesday and 25 bass on Weds. Key was finding those little point flats in about 5 to 7 foot of water near deep water. It seemed to us those bass had retreated to those types of areas waiting for the water to come back up or if it went down more they could retreat to deeper water. Nothing all that big but had a couple over three pushing 4 lbs. emoThumbsup Don't know where the big girls were, I assume they were still out deep or just had lock jaw. Best five keepers we could manage on either day was only 13.5 lbs.

After getting blown all over on the Chick for two days we decided to go to the Nick on Thurs and Friday. Throwing a Hale Mary we headed down there looking to find shelter from the high winds and waves. We launched out of the Park down by the Nick dam and could tell right off the water was not as bad. Stained but some better. Started hooking up right off fishing a shakey along old grass beds in 3 to about 7 feet. The quality was a little better overall but still a lot of 14 to 15 inchers. Went back into some shallow flats and found bedding bass. emoToast Started flipping a wacky sinko and a shakey in bass beds and had some fun. We both got a four but again no big kickers. Best day was 16.25 lbs. Water temp where we started finding bedding bass was 60 to 62 degrees. On Thurs we boated 26 bass and Friday 27 bass. We missed or lost several others both days. Not a bad four days when you look at numbers, 106 bass in the boat.

In both lakes we caught about 90 percent of our bass on a shakey with a finesse worm fished very slowly. The other 10 percent was split between an A-Rig, wacky worm and craw worm. Give it another week or so of warm weather and those bass in both lakes should be really turning on. emoDance As usual here are a couple pictures so it is just not a story. emoCool Tight lines to all and have a great year. emoGeezer Jmax

Impressive that you can return to the old stomping grounds, with less-than-desirable conditions and still catch that many fish! Good job!

Thanks gang, it was great getting back on the Chick and Nick even with the less then desirable conditions as Richard mentioned. Miss you all, the CFFs and CBAs hold a special place in my heart and life. emoHeart Miss the fellowship and telling stories before and after the weigh ins. I have moved around my whole life and have never found a couple groups of guys as great as ya'll are as a whole. emoBigsmile You never know how much you may miss something or someone until it or they are gone. emoGeezer If you love someone, tell them, if you want to make someone's day, say hello and let them know how you appreciate them. If you enjoy the many tournaments you find in your area let the guys who put it on and spend the time doing them know you appreciate them doing it. emoGrouphug Take care all my friends, hope to see you next year there again to do it all over once more. emoDance Jmax
