Less Government

Not wanting to emoHijack , I thought maybe the ones that wants less government would help start a petition to get rid of TVA. This cheap electric and all this water should be gone.

I don't really see anything wrong with TVA, but it is a big government started project and so many around here are oppossed to that, it was just a thought.

That would be correct if TVA wasn't our power provider. You bring in a private CO like Duke power or Progress etc...anyone who's been complaining about TVA raising rates lately will really be in for a suprise then... emoGeezer

The key to TVA's succes or whatever you call it is it is NOT government anymore. It is it's own entity now. I will have to disagree with you, I for one want a smaller Gov't.

You wanted to start it, so here it goes. Do you want the government to tell me I can't own a gun, even though I am an honest citizen? Do you want the government to tell me I have to drive a car that gets xx miles per gallon? Do I need the government to tell me I can only have a certain size boat, with a certain size motor? Do you want the government to rob from the rich and give to the undeserving? Do I want the government to mandate we all live in the same type housing so the successful do not hurt the egos of others? Do I want the government to tax me more for more handout programs for those who do not want to succeed? Do I need universal health care so we can receive poor medical care like those in England?

Mallardecho is correct, TVA is its own entity. The less government we have, especially on the federal level, the better. The main roles of the federal government should be to maintain a strong military to protect its citizens and maintain a modern federal highway infrastructure.

Dropshot, there are alot of things that I agree that the govt should keep their noses out of. We do have some of the cheapest rates in the country though, and we have our govt' to thank for creating TVA, and setting the foundation for cheap, reliable, electric power for the Tennessee Valley.

I agree, and add that under responsibilit for infrastructure. As Mallardecho said, TVA is more of its own entity now than a federal agency. I think being its own entity has allowed it to trim some fat from the agency.

I didn't make a point too well, it's not the first time. Heck, I don't want the govt. involved in all we do. I was just trying to say in these times that the USA is going through, we need some different thinking. If all that thought a flat out statement such as "less govt." had been running things in the 30's we wouldn't have TVA. I hope I didn't rile up too many feathers, especially anyone Iget to fish with when the water is cold.

I don't think anybody wants to do any of this.

I would like to see health insurance made a lot more affordable. So I could afford some.

Who doesn't want to succeed? Trust me its hard to get a leg up when you make just enough to pay the bills, taxes,and food. A little tax break for the middle class is good for economy.

I have no words at all for the mandating housing statment you said... did you hear this on the O'Rilley Factor or something?

Who doesn't want to succeed? How about those who are used to freebies so they make that their way of life. When everything is easy they see no reason to better themselves. Unfortunately, I see it all too often. And I agree we all pay to much in taxes. That is a place where I feel the less government, the more of my money I should be able to keep and take care of myself and my family.

The housing statement is pretty much how it is in many socialist countries where the government controls everything. I will not even go into politicians and their ties into socialistic studies as many would find it alarming.

Plus, I do not care much for O'Reilly. I think he straddles the fence... emoParty

I love how socialism gets thrown around. I'm not a socialist and neither is Obama. I am so close to the republican party if it were not for lies and trickery they pull on simple minded thinkers. Well that and I'm not a millionare. I really hate this 2 party system.

True! That is how you are supposed to handle civilized arguments. There is never any use in making things personal. I feel strongly about a subject and so do you. We'll never agree totaly which each other and we understand that. The people who can't understand why you can't agree with them are the reason for fights, wars, acts of terrorism, and post removed.
