Re: ethanol free gas

You guys need to be very careful with your fuel choices. The worst thing you can possibly do is mix fuel with ethanol with the ethanol free fuel. All fuel is oxygenated. The oxygenate in ethanol free fuel does not react well with ethanol and serious problems can occur.

So, make sure if you switch your tank is empty or very close. I am still running E10 in mine just because there aren't any 100% gas stations close.

RE: ethanol free gas

Have to agree with beetlespin , you need to use one or the orther fuels dont mix.The dealer I bought my 250 PROXS from told me to make sure that I stick with one fuel. He also recomended that I install a fuel filter by Yamaha on my boat to help with the problem.

Re: ethanol free gas

I recommend that everyone buy an ethanol tester! Go to a lawn mower place and order BRIGGS AND STRATTON ENGINE PART 100023 for $5.75
It is a test tube that you put a specific amount of water in and then a specific amount of gasoline in. If there is alcohol in the gas it will leave the gas and bond with the water thus increasing the volume of water. Then you read the graduations and it will tell you the % of ethanol.

RE: ethanol free gas

I'm having a bad time with the ethanol gas. I've lost 10 mph over the past six month. I bought the red stabill, say a post saying that it was the wrong one. Can you tell me where the PURE station is on HWY 58?

Thanks,
Brandan Martin emoBang

RE: ethanol free gas

The Pure Station on Hwy 58 is south of the 153 exit. Actually it's almost (if not) on Bonny Oaks. From the 153 exit just go south on 58 and look to your left.

Re: ethanol free gas

I heard from a guy at work that some stations that are ethanol blend are going back to a straight gas blend . His dad works for benton oil and he has been changing out fuel filters at gas stations , he said that its costing to much to produce the ethanol.

Re: ethanol free gas

First Station on 58 from 153 no ethanol. Right beside WaHo. Big Sign, no ethanol

Re: ethanol free gas

If gas prices stay low ethanol will go away.its just not economical to produce. The shell station on bonny oaks is ethanol free.

Re: ethanol free gas

Spoke with Mercury Corporate a fews days ago about ethanol. I was surprised the answer I received from their tech but he explained that fuel with 10% ethanol or less should not cause any issues with Mercury outboards. They did recommend to purchase fuel from a station that sales larger quantities, so they receive shipments of fresh fuel more often. Now for the folks with the 91 octane engines or higher the answer was not so good. Still the same info about the stores that sale more fuel but the tech and I both agreed the premium is not being used so often, so kind of like Forrest Gumps box of chocolates you just don"t know. Mercury did not recommend any type of octane booster but their own product called quickleen in everytank on the high performance engines. Not only Mercury but extended warranties through MMP, Old United and all the others have a detination clause so do your best because in these economic times the paper holders will try to find a way not to pay for that blown powerhead.
