Re: ethanol free gas

Ethanol-free gasoline is plentiful in the Chattanooga area. The website cited above, www.ethanolfreechatt.com, run by my son DJ, has fallen behind in listing all the stations and pitstops that sell clean gasoline.

There are two circumstances which may create shortages again of clean gas. If the corn lobby convinces Congress to push the ethanol limit to 15 percent; if prices rise again and distributors can profit from ethanol additive, which was cheaper than gas when gas was nearly F$4 a gallon — these are the two possibilities. Longer term, the federal statute dictates an increasing percentage of the gas supply contain it. This requirement, unless repealed, could be a third cause for a clean-gas shortage.

In a true free market, ethanol wouldn't stand a chance of surviving. It endures only by the coercive hand of the federal congress. Like the F40,000 GM Volt, ethanol cannot gain share in the marketplace unless the free hands of market place actors such as fishermen and motorists is blocked and forced to do something against its will.

DJ's site is a student project that intends to serve the general fishing and driving public (starting with the boy's mom.) Please make sure to return there if the ethanol situation becomes pressing. As the need arises, he will have to develop the site to provide small-engine users like you a reliable information source. DJT

Re: ethanol free gas

I think ethanol in our area has went away with little fan fare. I talked to the manager at the BP station on sequoyah access road this morning and she said their last 15 loads of gas had been ethanol free. The pump still says up to 10% but it is 100% gas. I'm glad because I usually get all my gas there.

Re: ethanol free gas

I buy my ethanol free gas at the Exxon in Collegedale which is close to my house. I buy more frequently at the Mid Night Oil in Ooltewah which is right off the interstate exit 11 which is always less expensive than the Exxon brand and it is on the way to the lake for me. I might add that you can buy gas 24 - 7 with your debit or credit card.

Re: ethanol free gas

Just to let everybody in Soddy know, the Pure Station in front of the Funeral home no longer is ethanol free. They have signs on two of their pumps that say up to 10% ethanol.

Re: ethanol free gas

The way this sounds it looks like the idea of not mixing ethenol gas with non-ethenol gas might be a crapshoot, since it appears thatere are a number of stations where conversion is going on or where deliveries are "whatever" this week. Personally, I ran some ethenol gas in my 225 ProMax for a while before I realized it might be a problem (when everyone said that little percentage wouldn't hurt anything), then converted to non-ethenol to be on the safe side - again ignorant that mixing the two might be a problem - and have never had a problem. May have been lucky so not arguing with anyone here - I'd recommend running as much out of the tank as I could before converting. Again though, where you fill up might be a crapshoot. Last weeks delivery could have been ethenol mix and this week's could be ethenol free AND there is some mixing going on at the stations in their tanks if that's the case. I'll continue to go to somewherre I KNOW there is ethenol free gas.

I run a 2006 Evinrude E-Tec. I talked to the technical people at Evinrude and they told me I could run regular 10% ethanol gas.
