I'm an old farte who had pretty much resigned himself to living out my life in my humble little 3-bedroom rancher in a Chattanooga subdivision. But my dear wife has been itching for something different for years. I didn't have much hope but went along "looking at houses" just to be a good husband. That is, until I'll be damned if she didn't find it!
On Monday we move to Sale Creek/Bakewell where Barbara found us 10 acres with a 1,000 foot driveway leading to the gorgeous log home on the very back side of the acreage, backing up to nearly 100 acres of woods. Cathedral ceilings, a loft, basement with a "Man Cave," plus a wrap-around porch with a view in every direction. BEST of all, there is not another home or building in sight! It even has a chicken house so I'll be buying Barbara some chickens post-haste. It has a pitiful little pond but it might harbor a catfish or two I bring home from Chickamauga Lake (nearest ramp is just five minutes away). And, we really weren't looking for a swimming pool but it was there so why not? Skinny dipping allowed (if not encouraged).
But what I love more than anything is that virtually EVERY trip to the house in preparation for the move, we see deer on the property, if not in the yard. And this morning I saw my first turkey in the backyard. Sure, ten acres isn't really "hunting acreage," but the surrounding undeveloped areas insure I can walk out the back door and sit in a tree or a blind (Barbara only insists that I can't shoot deer off the wrap-around porch. ).
The moving part sucks!!! But once we're there it's going to be our little piece of heaven on Earth.
All that said, if anyone knows anybody in the Sale Creek area who does bush-hogging and/or driveway grading/graveling, I'm all ears.
