Why is it that when ever there is a new war the first to go on the front lines are usually the National Guard? They should be here to guard the country, thus the name "National Guard". Why are they not being used to thier fullest to guard our borders. If the NG was used properly, they could pretty much put a stop to the cartels from over running our south west. Or at least almost put a complete stop to it. Why are they playing politics with our safety? emoUSA

Because we allow them to. Just like everything else the government does that we don't like. If we voted them all out each and every term until they started listening to the will of the people they would wake up.

Thats not 100% true, the first on the ground and into action is not the national guard, most of the time it is active duty military persons, but when you pull people from other parts of the county and from other bases to fight a war, some one has to take their place to keep our whole military numbers on active duty to a certain point, then if the war continues they who have been called to active duty will be rotated to the war so others can have some releif. That is the purpose of the reserve and the national guard, if they don't want to fight they shouldn't sign up, because when you sign, you are saying if the president of the united states says it time to fight you fight don't whine and complain go do what you have been trained and paid to do. just my 2 cents, i was in reserve for 8 years called to active duty by Daddy Bush in Desert/Storm/Sheild.

''Why is it that when ever there is a new war the first to go on the front lines are usually the National Guard?'' nope didn't miss anything that was the first question, he should have said " why is our national guard not used for protecting the border?

Wasnt trying to provoke any anger. I have family who are in the National Guard. They signed up for one reason and one reason only, to serve our country. My point is that we have a major crisis on our borders right now and I feel the Nat guard would do the best job at handling it.

Men and women volunteering to serve is obviously a smaller number than if another draft was imposed, but I dont think its stretched so thin that the National Guard need to be sent over seas rather than fighting the war on our own border.
