Well, I got out of some "duties" for the afternoon, called up Zach, who is a student at Chatt. State and we put in at Riverpark about 2pm and fished until dark all the way down to Mocc. Bend. The flow was 14K cfs and the water temp 66-67.
The wind hampered the finesse fishing for a while. We fished rip-rap, barge tie-ups and bridge piers using mostly 1/4 oz. jig/pigs and 3.5 in. plastic flukes and 2.5 in. tube baits.
We didn't keep count, but we caught lots of small spots (only 5 decent ones up to 16in.), 6 or 7 LM up to 14.5 in., a few meanmouths, several bluegills, red breasts and rockbass (redeyes) and a 2 lb. channel cat. We just couldn't get on the bigger spots and found no smallies. Took home 4 spots and released everything else.
Saw 4 lost ducklings or goslings (anybody know which?) with no parents in sight. The poor things tried to climb up a barge tie-up (see picture). They're probably in for a bad fate.
Met Labman just after we launched and had a nice conversation. He told us about the variety of fish he had caught downstream.
