My wife had been told that place had the best burgers around. We decided to go there yesterday after the CBA and try it. I can sum it up in one sentence, "Been there, done that and I won't be back." emoRolleyes When someone say "Southern", I think of a big burger about the size of a small plate. I bought the "Southern Burger"($6.50), an order of Onion Rings($2.00) and a tea ($1.95) for a total of $10.45 plus tax put it right at $11.40. Maybe my expectations were too high. Maybe that is a yuppie place that have no idea what a good price is. But they came back with about 10 small onion rings with a burger about the size of a large biscuit. emoDoh I had that so called Southern Burger down in about six bites and the onion rings were down in one bite each. That is 71.25 cents per bite and I left still hunger. Now on the good side, that little burger tasted really good and the onion rings had some kind of seasoning that also made them taste good as well. The atmosphere was good and the service was good. However if I am going to spend $11.40 on a burger meal I would expect to leave not feeling I just had an appetizer. emoBooHoo

My better half had the California Salad($5.95)(?) with chicken($2.00) added and a glass of water. That was suppose to have strawberries, sliced pecans, blue cheese and an assortment of salad with tomatoes. Hardly any strawberries, the pecans were a speckle of them (very few), very few tomatoes and a lot of lettuce. Had a modest helping of crumbled blue cheese. It was again fairly good but for the price it was lacking, it was mostly all lettuce.

Broke the $20 bill price for a small burger, a small order of onion rings, one tea and a salad. emoCrazy I think the next time I want a burger and a salad I am heading for Kevin Browns. But, now when it comes to Southern Burger, been there and now done that. I will not be back.

Anyone else have any experience over there yet? emoConfused Jmax

i tried the green pond grocery burger since i heard they were great.price wasn't bad.(7 bucks and some change.)burger was just so so.i wouldn't trade one of the burgers from the little beer place in red bank for 20 of those.(sorry cant never think of their name)first and last time.

Went to KBs for a burger that had no taste.
That has been the case the last few times I have been there.
I'm done with being disappointed...emoEnforce

We walked in there to southern a few weeks ago and I saw the size of the burgers and walked out. One of my favorite burgers is urban stack down town. A little fru fru but good burgers.

An old style 50s~60s Diner motif
I take Mama`on Thursdays to her hair appt and run her errands and in just general, "air her out" emoLaugh

I get a triple chocolate shake sometimes too that comes dressed in a shake glass with the fixins' and the mixer metal container for the rest of the shake to finish it. (they are not thick, but are old-fashioned)

They serve their burgers in a basket with homemade crispy kettle fries that are better than Carrabba's
Order the burger the way you want it and they are pretty consistent too.

I used to like KBs, but the last few times have not worked out well.
Plenty of meat but no flavor or even salt and pepper

Shake Shack , Cleveland. Extra large cheeseburger with extra hot slaw. If you can eat it all I guarantee you won't eat again for a few hours. Soft ice cream cones! Milk Shakes! Onion Rings! Gonna have to make a trip up there pretty soon!

Jmax, Thanks for the warning on the burger joint. Since that original burger post, Kevin browns is the best I have found from it. Sorry old man, I think I said green pond had a good one. I have since found that there are about 8 or 9 different people that may cook your food....I've had good and bad. Mervs was good in red bank but the fries were AWFUL. Will have to try to find Roy's. not much better than a good burger......

Love Central Park, but I think Shake Shack does rule them all. And J Alexander's for a burger? I always thought that was some fancy schmancy place. Have a hard time getting a burger at a place like that.
