It was on the news this moring that the President signed a bill requiring all cars and trucks made in or after 2016 to get at least 35.5 mpg. How are they going to get a full sized truck to get that mpg and still have enough horsepower to pull a boat.....and more importantly for me pull one up and down Monteagle mountain?

He may have just outlawed bass fishing. :(

Ive heard they already have the technology for cars and trucks to get much better gas mileage then they are getting now w/o loosing the HP. They are just trying to keep the oil gurus super rich. Kinda like the drugs that are safer and more effective, just not profitable enough. Just rumors though!

I would hope the mpg would be an average across the board? This would make larger vehicles available, just at a high price.

If the consumer paid at the pump what we really pay for a gallon of gas we would welcome this bill.

with the billions of dollars in tax breaks to the big oil companys and the cost of the military to protect the oil producing countrys,( all from income tax) we must be paying $10-$12 a gallon.

I agree with this bill 100%. I don't think it goes far enough. The technology is there. I am waiting to see aluminum start to penetrate into large frame parts. Its happening on high end sports cars now so bound to happen on more cars and trucks soon. I would love to see a mid-sized truck like my tacoma with a 3-4 liter turbocharged clean diesel engine. Would tow like crazy and probably get 25 mpg instead of the 18 i'm getting now.

I am hoping the natural gas vehicles do well. We have trillions of cubic feet in the good ole U.S. of A.!

I just don't like the idea of spending money to develop vehicles to burn another countries fuel.(considering that the ones we buy fuel from burn our flag) emoBang

Mahindra has one that is undergoing EPA testing and should be out soon and would be very similar to what your talking about. 2.2 liter diesel, 236 ft-lbs of torque, 2,500 lb payload, and suppose to get 30 mpg highway. Towing specs are not out yet, but should be over 5,000 lb and probably closer to 7,500 lb.

My favorite tow vehicle was a 1982 Suburban diesel that got 22 miles per gallon and 20 when towing a big bass boat. Clean diesel vehicles....yes sign me up for those in the future.

I have read about the Mahindra but not sure its for me. I have had my best luck with Toyota so I will keep hoping they will offer a clean diesel.
