I'm starting to research on board chargers. I'll be buy 1 in the near future. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance, Mike
I guess the type of battery might make a difference? I'm pretty sure they're lead acid batteries. I'm just looking for something reliable and reasonably priced.Depends on your batteries. I had to switch when I went to lithium. I had a two bank Minn Kota that was 5 amps per bank and it would have been better to have 10 with my deep cycle 27s. My 24v 100 AH lithium charges quickly like a dream.
Still looking for a charger? I have a Dual Pro Sportsman Series 3 bank 10amp (Tri Pro) for sale. $240.00I'm looking @ a Promariner 3 bank charger right now. I finally bought a boat and need an on board charger
I'm no expert but I have installed several in different boats. The first thing is to consult the owners manual to make sure you mount it in a position that is allowed. I always tried to take into consideration where the extension cord would be at in relation to the boat when in the normal storage location, in other words mount the charger on the side that the cord will be coming from to minimize stretching the extension cord across the width of the boat. I also tried to mount the charger as high in the bilge area as possible so that if the bilge took on water the charger would stay out of it as long as possible. I often found it better to mount the charger to a slightly oversized plastic board and then mount that board to a vertical wall in the bilge area. I hope this helps, good luck! No, I found a 3 bank 20 Amp on eBay. But thanks for the offer. I've got questions about where to mount it. Who should I ask about that?
An aluminum plate will work just fine. Some of the chargers are not all that light in weight so be sure that the surface you choose is thick enough / stout enough to support the weight taking into account that there will be some inertia from boat movement, especially the pounding that your charger will see from rough water. Good Luck! Thanks for the reply. I've got an aluminum plate I was gonna mount to the back side of where the batteries are located. Then mount the charger to that. I think that area is full of foam? But need to confirm it. The boat is a Stratos 295 Pro Elite. I don't want to put an unnecessary holes in it.
