I have a preexisting condition (Type 1 Diabetes) and my income base was 45K-55K annually I chose tier 2 "Silver Plan" and my monthly premiums came out to $597.00 with $13,988 yearly deductible!!! There is NO POSSIBLE way that I can afford this so I "opt-out" and chose to continue along with no insurance. I received an email tonight at 5:00 P.M. informing me that my fine would be $4,037 and could be attached to my yearly income tax return. Then you make it to the "REPERCUSSIONS PORTION" for "non-payment" of yearly fine. First, your drivers license will be suspended until paid, and if you go 24 consecutive months with "Non-Payment" and you happen to be a home owner, you will have a federal tax lien placed on your home. You can agree to give your bank information so that they can easy "Automatically withdraw" your "penalties" weekly, bi-weekly or monthly! This by no means is "Free" or even "Affordable."</span></font></div><div></div>

I'm not sure about the one above but I will bet it will be bad. I have said for some time that this whole thing is nothing more then the Oboma folks trying to take control of your insurance, health care or/and the lack of it. I am still going to say this is nothing more then a way the government can tax you more and pay for other items they are running short of money on. I will also say it will be more expensive then everyone who voted for them think, it will cover far less then you think, many hospitals and doctors will not except it, the premiums will be high, the deductable will be high and in the long run what you get for your money will be far less worth what you will pay to have it.

When everything is said and done the truth about this Affordable Care will come to surface. I just hate that we are having to do it in order to see what is in it. emoBang That statement a couple years back from Nancy Palosi where she said we needed to vote for it in order to see what is in it is really starting to ring true. We will all be able now to watch just how true this pans out to be. emoRolleyes Jmax

From what I've seen and heard so far, it's really not that "affordable". Granted, the *proposed* premiums are less than what some are paying now, but a "low income" family and/or senior on fixed income (i.e. Soc. Sec.) still has to pay that monthly premium in cash, money order, check, whatever. BFD that they get a tax credit at the end of the year; what do they have to go without during the year to pay for this?

I've been without HI since Bredesen kicked us off TennCare so he could put the Katrina "victims" on. And I was paying premiums for that. Although I've had 6 bypass, am currently fighting (and winning) Type2 Diabetes (both attributable to genetics & family history), I've only had to visit the ER twice in the last 5 years. Once for stitches when I sliced my hand open, and once when I was bitten by a copperhead. Before that, my last hospital stay was in 2000 when I had the bypass. I should have gone directly to SS when I got home in 2000 and applied for disability. White man's pride.

I've become truly skeptical of any forwarded email containing any political message. So many are statements taken out of context, edited to make a point or just plain lies.

I am right there with you Flipper. I do not trust any of them anymore. Fox is all anti Oboma so if he did say anything that would help it would have a spin so it would sound bad or not helpful. However CBS is downright full of Oboma support so no matter what he does it is viewed as a good thing. It worries me where all this is going. It was broke before but from where I stand it is now completely shattered. I am not sure all the kings horses and all the kinds men will ever put this back together again. emoBang My wife deals in the Health Insurance sector protecting her workers. It has come increasingly difficult for her to protect them from overcharges and wrongful assumptions/procedures from insurance companies. When she does get them to change it the universal answer or excuse now is the Obama care changes. In her case their insurance has nothing/nota/Zilch to do with it but the insurance companies and doctors seem to think it is a "get out of jail" card to cover or charge what they want to.

This is happening nationwide and is causing those who do it to have excessive labor costs to figure out what is going on and who is right. There is no savings, just another excuse to stick it to us. emoAngry Jmax

Many think the confusion and high cost is intentional. If it fails, some say the politicians will just throw up their hands and say "we tried", now on to a single payor plan. The single payor is their holy grail and the obama monstrocity appears to be just a stepping stone to it.

This link is to help explain how simple the plan is meant to be. Just read some of the examples and especially where it is to increase in cost to you until 2016.
A real statement in the guide...
"Keep in mind that as of Jan. 1, most people, with exceptions, will be required to have health insurance or pay a penalty if they don't.
The penalty starts at $95 or 1% of your income — whichever is higher — in 2014, and is phased in over time to $695, or 2.5% of your income, by 2016.
No doubt that for many there will be work to be done in making the right decision."

Today, I heard on Fox Business News that, under the law, the IRS cannot collect any of the penalties except by deducting it from your tax refund. The lawyer explaining it said they could not sue, take you to court, garnish your wages or anything else. Lou Dobbs said "how long will that last"? So, my advice to everyone is to fill out a new W-4 at work in Jan. and make sure you will not qualify for a refund. That solves that problem.

The obama administration has also announced that their system cannot verify an applicant's income; therefore, they are gonna take your word for how much you earn. Remember that if you earn below a certain amount, the insurance will be totally free. I do not know what the earnings threshold happens to be, but I wonder how many people will get a free ride by lying about their income.

An interesting tid-bit was announced by Insurance watch dog group. They reported no one had signed up in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Maryland as of last Monday. They were unable to learn if it was due to the failed on-line application process or lack of interest.

If we just wait this thing out, refuse to sign up or otherwise cooperate, the wheels will come off this thing and go belly up.

The Chicago Times, or whatever that nasty rag is named, reported that the deductible for the "Bronze" plan in Illinois for a single person is $4,000 while the deductible for a family is $8,000. If the Illinois rates are like most other states, the monthly rate will be about triple what the insured paid in the past. More evidence that this is just a stepping stone to the single payer objective.

Keep in mind that if not enough younger, healthier people sigh up, the plan will be an economic disaster. Without massive cash infusions by the gov., I don't see how the thing can survive finacially.
