Rod choice for A-rig

Looks like I am going up Saturday now cannot get away from work Friday. Was hoping to meet Gerald Swindol but maybe another day. No man crush just like his simplistic approach to fishing.

Have you ever seen the video of the “knot” he ties? He swears by it...simple, strong and I use it. I really like him too.

Going to have specials at the show? I’m getting an A rig rod up there too. I’m going to look at Cashion, Dixie Customs, and whatever else is available.

I just bought a couple Cashion rods and I am very disappointed in the umbrella rig rod because of its balance, overall weight, and it's quality. The Cashion rod is almost twice as heavy. It blows my mind honestly. My cast are about 7 to 9 foot shorter than my St. croix umbrella rig rod. Also they didn't put enough epoxy around the hook keeper and I can see the threads come through. The Cashion Rods umbrella rig is also very very very tip heavy so it can only be used for tip down presentations. It looks like I'll be in the market for some new rods...... you should check out st. Croix mojo bass umbrealla rods. The balance and weight are perfect.

Thank you, I looked at the Cashion rods also but have not made the jump but most reviews have been positive on TW. Thanks again for the details.

Check on google and you will see what I say is true lol. I read all the tackle warehouse reviews also. I like their worm/jig rod, chatterbait rod, and crankbait rod. It was a hit and miss. 2 out of the 4 rods I bought had quality issues.

Cabelas Tournament ZX rig/swimbait rod. It's 7'9" heavy mod-fast. Best thing is that you can catch them on sale for $69 and they have a lifetime guarantee

Yes, Joe Burns Rods will be running show specials

Guys, its hard to beat a Joe Burns Rod for the quality and the money. On top of that, you are supporting local business and he provides a lifetime warranty on all of his rods.

Well said BullMerc225, myself I am trying to wait till Saturday at the show but the temptation to buy something now is wearing on me, look and research every night when I get home from work.

I will be at the show in the Joe's Custom Rods booth on Saturday, come by and see me and I will explain to you the Joe Burns difference. It will be worth the wait till Saturday!

Just seeing a lot of folks throwing The Rig on the water and was wondering what is a good rod and reel combo for throwing such a beast?

Thanks
Jeepman

I've tried a variety of rods for my rig, but the best, easiest setup I've found is what I'm using now. I have the AG Winch on a 7'11" Heavy Okuma TCS Mat Daddy. It's the Scott Martin Series. I bought it online last year for $100. Make sure to use like 65 lb braid.

Thanks for the reply, I am going to look Saturday at the fishing expo then decide from there. By then it will be warm weather and won’t need the a-rig rod. Haha. I have looked at the AG Vertas and the Lews, Dobyns

Well, Good Luck. I hope you find one you really like and that will save the wear and tear on your arm. I'll be honest, I threw the rig a lot last year...throughout the entire year and had a lot of success. I am a big fan of it. Just get something long with backbone and you'll be good to go. A buddy of mine uses Veritas for his rig rod. He loves it...see it's all user preference, lol

Well I got a Joe Burns Rig rod and it looks nice. Cannot talk about performance yet but the appearance is really nice. Several people commented about the rod and its feel and construction and all were impressed. Cannot wait to try it out, thanks Joe the help today.
