I can officially say the rut is on here in South Hamilton, at least where Im at. The buck I saw a couple days ago...turns out he is a nice 8 point with a small G4 that some would call a 9th point. Probably 120-125 size range. He was right behind a Doe that came in this morning at 0730. The Doe milled around for about 45 minutes and he would not get more than 15 yards from her, she moved along and he stayed right behind her. I let him walk as I know this property produces 140-150 class deer each year. Next year he will be a bruiser, Im guessing he is a 3yr old. 4-5 yrs old and he will definately be something to brag about. Hopefully he will survive the season.

Good luck boys, the rut is on...

Cheers

Havnt seen much signs of the rut in northwest Bradley County near highway 60 just one small buck chasing a doe . Have seen alot of does and young deer together but no bucks to speak of . I wish it would hurry up and get here .

I let my good friend hunt my spot I killed the 125 inch 8 point in last wends he hunted sat morn and killed another 120 class 8 point big deer was snort weezing and trying to fight another buck so its def on where I'm hunting

I was out this evening, saw a lot a doe's and had a nice 6 point chase some doe's through the field. He was tired of running, he came out a couple of times chasing doe's and had to lay down at one point and take a breather. I let him walk as he will be a big deer in a year or two. I would guess he was a 2 year old. I have been second guessing myself on letting that 8 point walk last week, he was a high 120's deer. Hopefully he will survive the season and it will pay off for me next year when he's 130-140 class.

turkeykiller, post some pics if you get a chance. Would like to see your trophies

Cheers

How I have loaded mine in the past is to upload them to a photosharing website like photo bucket or flickr and get the html code. Copy the html code and paste it to your post. If the pics are just to big then try right clicking on the pic and then resize to size small.

If you want, you can send me your pics and Ill get the codes for you then you can add them to the forum if you like.

Spent the weekend in the Putnam county area. around Center Hill Lake. The full moon and warm temps hurt us. Most of the deer movement we saw was mid mornings. Lots of little bucks chasing the does, saw one shooter as he ran from me up the mountain. I think I pushed him out of the bed. I'm hoping that the big chase has not got rolling yet. Maybe these colder temps will kick them in.

Thats a heck of a buck Cody! Tr19 shot a 140" there this weekend as well. I know those bucks normally get going in December so the best action is yet to come for those hunters along the southern counties...good luck!

Hey for all you seasoned vets out there. Is there a tale tale way to determine if the rut is here. I understand about the spikes chaseing in prerut/rut and the does splittin from fawns and scrapes and rubs. But I have been hunting a prime location at least 4 out of seven days a week and have seen chaseing but havent seen any big bucks comeing out. I hate to ask a juvenile question, but will the cold weather put the bigger bucks on their feet and come out and play? I see deer just about every time I go out, but havent seen any big bucks moveing just spikes.

Cold weather will get them moving. I think this warm weather has them stalled out for right now. The little bucks are definately chasing and I have seen a good mature buck locked up with a doe. I dont think we have seen the main show yet being so warm.

Saw my very first chase this AM. I have been deer hunting for 19 years, killed a dozen or so bucks, never anything big, but have never seen a true chase untill this morning on the way to work. Passed a field with a heavy racked deer tailing a doe around a group of other deer. This was in Bradly county, hope its the start of good things!

got a nice 8 point sunday found a lot of rubs and a few scrapes seen alot of does and a few bucks alot off the bucks are still togeather we are going back this weekend so i will have better info on the alabama rut i seen adout 15 does sunday but none was around the bucks

IT'S ON...at least on the Cumberland Platuea. A 10 pt and a 6 pt....kia..on our property this morning. Both in HOT pursuet. Going to retrive tree-stand.....3 doe came from thick brush...with another buck on their tails. emoToast

I was up in Crossvile last week. Saw several does just feeding in groups and no bucks. Sunday morn I saw two does just feeding and the i wittnessed a small buck horn a tree and it had another small buck with it. And then I saw a small eight and a spike running a doe. I think there just starting. I'm headin back up tomorrow.

Just got back from a great day in the woods. This morning I hunted a piece of property thats bow only, I had 5 doe's come into my ground blind location feeding around 715am. Shortly after I had a spike grunting and snort weezin come break up the party. Thats something I have never heard before, thought that was prettty neat. Another Doe came cruising by at 920am followed by a realy cool non typical. He was really young though maybe a 2 yr old. He had a pretty gnarly looking rack, will be nice to see him when he is 4-5 yrs old.

This afternoon I went out to a little farm I hunt in south Hamilton to try and shoot a Doe for the freezer being the last day of Doe week. Well I got the Doe and also shot an old mature 6 point. I typically dont shoot 6 points but he was a good mature buck over 200 lbs and I doubt will get any bigger, most likely just smaller as far as the rack is concerned. He was behind the Doe I harvested.

So the rut is still in full swing for me here in South Hamilton. This cool weather has helped out a lot to get these deer moving and chasing. I think they kind of stalled out with the warm weather in the beginning of the week.

I will post pics as soon as I get them off the camera

Cheers

Over in middle TN my buddy killed a good wide 10 pt chasing a doe. The rut I believe has turned on and the big boys are about to start to get stupid, well less causious. Now is the time to be in the woods. I can't wait to go with bow in hand this afternoon and tomorrow morning. Going to be cold a tough with a bow but got to get out there. good luck to all!
