Ya might do a little research and find out where the Railroad Sheetmetal workers union dues gets too. Thanks

buzz - 1/14/2010 10:41 PM Psst...I paid a lot into SS. Before and during working at the RR. I worked different jobs on off days, etc. My wife paid into the SS all her life. She had the option of SS or RR. Of coarse the RR was way more. I ain't complaing about SS....I feel it helped some laid off worker. How the SWEETHEART OBAMACARE and the Unions work out for you. Screw those people that don't belong to a UNION...RIGHT?

Buzz, you can't draw off social security and railroad retirement at the same time, you picked to retire from the railroad, your fica that you paid in was converted to railroad retirement when you retired.

You have a burr under you saddle about Obama being president, that is the reason you brought this up, live with it for 3 more years or more. I am not trying to screw over anyone that does not belong to a union, whatever profession a person picks in life is their business, not mine, I picked the sheetmetal workers and Snuffy picked the pipefitters, you picked the railroad. As i said before, don't knock the unions untill you have tried them, in your case you don't understand the rules that you worked under, if you sat down with your union represenative, he can tell you the rules again, hopefully you will catch on this time.

Nice try...won't fly. And no...the SS I paid in....doesn't roll over. Your right...I voted for the American...and for America! I hope there is an America left in 3 more years. I very well understood the rules. You belong to a UNION or you don't work. Back when there were 1 year contracts...the Unions had to stay on top. When they went to 5 year contracts they set on their sorry asses. 5 year contracts would stall into 5-7 years.

Since you are so pissed off at the unions, why don't you cancel your retirement they they worked for and got for you, piss them off royaly, give it back, give them the finger while you are at it, show them how mad you really are for helping you. Tell them how ungrateful you really are. BTW I voted for an american just like you but we voted for different people. You voted for Buzz and Buzz only. You are about the most ungrateful person I have ever run across, how do you live with yourself?

Your right XLD....I want to apologize to Snuffy and Doc. That was un-called for on my part. We will just have to agree to disagree on the good and the bad of Unions.

American labor unions are great...for China and other third world countries.

Most intelligent truthful thing I have read in a while.

Union=Copout for deadbeat!

Interesting read...Is this what is called buying the vote?

Leaders of the labor movement announced Thursday afternoon that they have reached a compromise agreement with the White House and congressional leaders to address union concerns with the health care reform bill.

The most contentious issue facing the negotiators was the excise tax on high-cost, "Cadillac" insurance plans. The tax was not eliminated, as many union members had called for, but was scaled back so that it won't hit as many labor households. The threshold for what constitutes a Cadillac plan was raised and will continue to rise with inflation - though likely not as fast as health care costs will rise. In 2015, dental and vision will not be included in the calculation.

For an eight-year period, plans that are the result of collective bargaining - union plans - will be exempted from the tax.

"Let's go on and actually pass this bill," Anna Burger of the Service Employees International Union said in a conference call union leaders held with reporters to announce the deal. The AFL-CIO's Richard Trumka cautioned, however, that full labor support is "subject to the final bill."

The deal was reached with the White House, they said, but Congress is also on board. "We are informed that they are. We have spoken with them. We think everyone is on board with this," said Trumka. "We will endorse and we will do that proudly, but it's subject to the final bill."

The threshold for a Cadillac plan was lifted to $24,000 for families and $8,900 for individuals. It will be adjusted upward if there are "unexpected rises in health care" costs between 2010 and 2013, said Trumka.

Labor also won special treatment for workers who are charged more for insurance because of the age or gender of their workforce, high-risk workers and some qualified retirees.

Labor leaders met with the Democratic House caucus Thursday to discuss the deal. Progressives pushed back against it, saying that too much had been given away, people familiar with the meeting said. But the union leaders said they feel the Democrats are ultimately on board.

Gerald W. McEntee, head of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, said that progressive members of Congress pushed the unions to fight for more. "There were some people who wanted to continue to fight for no excise tax at all," he said.

The GOP immediately jumped on the agreement, calling it a back-room deal cut to benefit unions. The excise tax had been estimated to raise $150 billion over ten years; the compromise tax will raise $90 billion, said Trumka.

White House Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer told reporters on a separate conference call that the deal came "after very intense and long discussions."

"We believe that we can work with Congress to improve the existing excise tax structure and achieve the president's core goals - which is to put downward pressure on longterm health care costs while ensuring that we are not putting new and unfair burdens on hardworking middle-class families," he said.

what`s your point Dropshot ?????? or are you just mad because you don`t have an organization fighting to help you Maybe you can get Rush or Glenn to take up the fight for you.Just send ema couple hundred bucks and they`ll get right on it. Maybe even send you a nice Newsletter on their efforts!! If you have to pay for insurance I`m sure you know that the $6000 I pay a year or even the 8900$ doesn`t get you a Cadillac plan. You should also remember that any increase in the threshold will also apply to any one.... not just the ones covered by a union plan. Just remember that the dues I pay for this representation will also benefit you even though you cuss me...and I`m OK with that.

I have not cussed anyone yet. Someone else on the forum sent me the picture, which based on what happened to Keith Gladney, seems to represent SEIU. "For an eight-year period, plans that are the result of collective bargaining - union plans - will be exempted from the tax." Why should union member be exempt from the same taxes professionals such as myself will have to pay? It is simple. It is called buying the vote. The regime knows that by increasing handouts they can assure themselves of the union vote.

Less labor unions now in the history of unions. They are so weak that they basically do no good. We went from 38% to 8% in amount of companies with unions. Get over it your looking. At the small picture

Really? Are you one of the ones escaping additional taxes because you are being propped up by a labor organization. I have never been against unions per se, but in this case of buying the vote in exchange for freebies that are limited to a particular organization, comprisingup to 16.1 million voters per civilrights.org, it is simply wrong. In New York, Hawaii, and Alaska, union memberships are over 20% of the voting population of those states.

This sweetheart deal, hammered out behind closed doors, will save union employees at least $60 billion over the years involved, while others willhave to cough up almost $90 billion...does not seem like a small picture to me.

Hey look...I made a complete sentence.

Big picture! Less raises + higher utilities + higher medical bills + le
ss benefits equals middle class struggling. Don't make me list tax loop holes for the rich

I don`t think that insurance benefits should be taxed for union plans or other types either. I don`t think it was meant to be for the middle class workers, which all but the professional unions such as airline pilots or other High Dollar earners, belong too. Constructions trades union plans usually are in the 3-5$ and hour range usually and offer the most basic major medical plans with no frills. If I`m working 140 hours a month I pay nothing out of my pocket....If I`m not working it costs me $510 a month just for me. $500 deductable with a 200$ a year vision...no dental. I don`t think that classifies as a Cadillac plan . Just for comparison would you like to truthfully spell out your plan and costs as a Professional Dropshot....I`m not picking on you but am just curious.

Sounds like your medical benefits are descent compared to most. I work for medical company and my annual deductible is 3000. My wife Is an nurse for doctor and it would cost as much as an paycheck to get health insurance. Have you noticed insurance dosent cover what they use to
