Re: Shakey head fishing........................

richg99 - 7/28/2016 9:52 AMCan you use shake heads when the bottom has small (6 inch) weeds? richg99
Hey Rich, you can but the weeds tend to hang on to a jig head some. I prefer to switch to a texas rigged worm around grass. I like using a 1/4oz bullet weight. It comes through grass very easy.

Re: Shakey head fishing........................

Yea, I've used Texas rigged worms for many years. Heck, I live in TX half the year, I better use that technique..Ha Ha.

Since I had some time this morning ( it is great being retired) I rigged up a Shakey head and threw it for an hour or two. No fish, but, also darn few weeds. I was pretty impressed with how well it made it through our relatively light weight weeds here on the Plateau.

Earlier in the year, I had a good outing using the Shakey head near Harris?? on the Chick with a guide. I just thought it was only a rocky bottom type of setup.

I will add it to my options now.... thanks richg99

I fish a lot of shakey heads too, and while I am not fishing at the Chick all the time, I do vary my heads depending on where I am. I like the Spot Removers pro style (with the spring keeper) for rocky areas. They seem to stand up a little better than some other brands. For a smoother bottom or with a little grass or mud it is hard to go wrong with the Owner Ultra head. That thing is the sharpest hook you will find in a shakey head and most times it will stick the fish. Most times I use the Zoom trick or finesse worms, Robo worms and a few other brands of small-bodied worms.
However, if I am using the Zoom Magnum Finesse or trick worms, or any worm with a thicker body I will swap to a EWG hook to punch through that bigger worm. This spring I lost a few fishing fishing the magnum finesse worm on that straight shank hook and I learned my lesson.
