Ran to a mat in Wolftever on Saturday, had the wind blowing on it. Mike catches what looked like a keeper, and came off at the side of the boat. Not good, but showed feeding fish in the area. Kept fishing, and land a good keeper on a Senko. Caught a few short fish, on Senko's and baby brush hog's. The bite slowed, and the wind seem to pick up, so we move. Tried some places on the leeward side, working back toward the dam. Nothing. Ran across the river to the windward side, Mike hooks another keeper. Says he didn't feel the bite, so much bow in the line. The fish, on a jig, is next to the boat ,dives under and breaks the line. I run the trollong motor while Mike reties. Had to dial the motor up to 8 on his 112# to hold in place. Went to a slough with bait, laydowns and some isolated mats to finish. Weighed one fish. Caught a few, but all but one were shorts.
Sunday, on Nick, ran north. Didn't do well on the last CFF on Nick going south, so we started opposite direction. Began fishing a community area. Caught a 14 3/4 largemouth in the first 10 minutes or so. Healthy fish, just not long enough. Ran upriver fished the eddies, and caught fish, spots. Found fish around docks and laydowns. Put three keepers in the boat, couple of 12", and a decent largemouth. Ran south and fished more docks , laydowns and grass. Put number four in the boat. Couldn't find number five. Saturday and Sunday, Senko's caught most of the keepers. Got one on a baby brush hog.. Sunday a jig also worked. Threw a buzzbait, crankbait and frog without success. Sunday, most of the catches, keepers and shorts, were shallow, or right on the edge of deeper water. Caught a bunch of fish Sunday, but only four keepers.
I believe we ended fourth, with a little over 10#. Congrats to Glenn on the "w", and big fish. Thanks to the committee for another good year of CFF tourney's. See all my fishin' brothers in '22 when we start again.
