so while we were sitting around waiting to blast off in the last CFF tournament, the guy in the boat next to me is checking to see how his bait is running. in the meantime fish actually started schooling right there, pretty sure they were perch. he jerked on a couple but never hooked up and i threw a bait out there as well but neither of caught or even hooked a fish.

and the tournament committee got complaints? REALLY??

so what about someone putting in at another ramp and riding up/down the lake, checking holes and fishing on the way to register BEFORE they pay their money? is that against the rules? if so, go ahead and DQ me because ive done it several times.

ITS PETTY!!!! grown men, complaining because we're messing around before blast off!! its not like we were putting fish in the box and we were right there in the middle of 15 other boats. bunch of BS!!! if the tournament committee or members are that serious about it, they should be checking livewells before blast off.

what about my other scenario? i dont see anything in the rules that precludes that?

I agree with checking livewells, Why not do that...it would be safer for all the boats to idle past the blast off boat before putting it on pad...just a thought.

Scouting around before a blast off and sign up is not an issue. We do not have any off limit rules on that. We do from time to time try to have random live well checks and we have had all boats idle by the dock as afore mentioned in he past. But actually fishing at the ramp during registration and before blast off is not allowed in any Tx. that I know of. Checking out how a bait runs or casting to check out a reel is a different thing from actually fishing.

Might need to get scales recalibrated too while your at it . I weighed four pounder and two three pounders and wound up with 8.22
.

I am surprised to learn livewells are not checked here. Used to fish TXs in another part of the country and we had livewells and safety gear checked before launch. No boat launching at another ramp and riding down to the TX spot either.

When the CFF first started it was just a dogfight scenario where you just show up, sign up, and fish. No point system just a bunch of us going head to head on a Saturday and I miss those days

When you weigh toward end of tournament you don't have any idea how many time scales were tarred wither they were one time or after each person weighs. When you run a tournament it is your responsibility to make sure scales are set up right. I know because I have ran several tournaments including running frostbite series with Gary Hughes in wintertime. Not trying to start any shit or anything but in a tournament getting scales right is pretty important. As for fishing before the tournament in front of everybody is just asking to be disqualified. You may not have kept any fish but it sends out a signal in the future for somebody to do it and what if they caught 6 or 7 pounder would they throw it back? Tournaments committee has enough stuff to worry about at blast off don't need to have to police that too. I remover running Monday night dogfight years ago we blasted off at mouth of river had to ban people for hole sittin island in front of Chester frost and not blasting off and fishing before blast off.
